I was watching showtime last night and caught a commercial for the upcoming Tarver fight. Man they talked that **** up. Their exact words were "former 2 time championa dn future hall of famer Antonio Tarver". I couldn't help but laugh. Since when does one big win get you into the HOF? does anyone here actually think Tarver belongs in the hall?

He didn't have one big win.

He beat Eric Harding, Montel Griffin, RJJ twice, and Glen Johnson. I thought he beat Glen Johnson twice but he only got one decision.

Canastota has pretty low standards and all, but enshrining Tarver is kind of iffy to me.

It still wouldn't surprise me though.

there are far less accomplished fighters in the hall of fame. He unified the belts at light heavy, then beat rjj 2/3, had some decent wins over perennial contenders, and a stellar amatuer career.

NO! I'm just not for this.

Even though Douglas knocked out Tyson, is he going to the HOF?...NO!

Even though McCall knocked out Lewis, is he going to the HOF?...NO!

Even though Rachman knocked out Lewis, is he going to the HOF?...NO!

Just becaue Milkdud knocked out Jones doesn't mean he's going to the HOF.

When I look at some of the other guys in Canastota, Tarver being in the HOF doesn't seem so bad at all.

    Barry McGuigan's notable wins:

    • Top contender Juan Laporte
    • Aging ATG Eusebio Pedroza
    • Undefeated contender Bernard Taylor
    • Juan Cabrera
    Antonio Tarver's notable wins:

    • Top 10 contender Chris Johnson
    • Top contender, former titlist Reggie Johnson
    • Top contender Eric Harding (it took Tarver two tries though)
    • Contender Montell Griffin
    • Aging (p4p King) ATG Roy Jones Jr. (it again took Tarver two tries though)
    • Titlist/top LHW Glencoffe Johnson
    Ingemar Johansson's Notable Wins:

    • European Heavyweight Champ Joe Erskine
    • Top contender Eddie Machen
    • HW Champ/HOFer Floyd Patterson (Floyd won 2 of 3)
    • Contender Brian London

Here are some more HOFers and their resumes of wins:

    Rocky Graziano's Notable Wins:

    • Top 10 Contender Billy Arnold
    • Bummy Davis
    • Freddie Cochrane 2x (a welterweight champ whom Rocky outweighed by 10 lbs)
    • Top 10 welterweight contender Harold Green
    • Marty Servo (another welterweight whom Rocky had about 8 lbs on)
    • Tony Zale (a post WW2 Zale, whom Rocky beat 1 out of 3)
    • Top 10 welterweight contender Charley Fusari, whom Rocky had over 10 lbs on
    Ken Norton's Notable Wins:

    • Muhammad Ali 1 of 3 times (could have easily won 2 of 3 against Ali though)
    • Fringe contender Boone Kirkman
    • Aging top ten contender Jerry Quarry
    • Undefeated contender Duane Bobick
    • Fringe contender Lorenzo Zanon

That is a decent resume but not HOF worthy by any means. HOF is supposed to be for the elite of the elite. Aside from RJJ now one of those guys was even top 20 p4p when Tarver beat them.

Some guys make soem good points about less deserving fighters that are in the hall. I agree but I don't think that simply letting everyone in just because there were some **** ups made is the solution.

I'm not saying he should be a HOFer. I'm just disputing what he said when he said he only had one big win. That just isn't true. He's beaten some top contenders at LHW. He's not just a one hit wonder.
