I have been a boxing fan so long that I picked Clay over Liston. There are many other posters on this board who are close to my age. There are professional boxers on this forum, and a least a couple of good writers on this board. There are also posters who who host radio shows devoted to boxing. It is extremely irritating to have some clown come along and act like we are all morons because he does not know the rules of the sport.
I get the impression judges are pressured to pick a winner of a round to make them look 'decisive'. I think a lot of time the first round of a fight deserves a draw since it is a 'feel out round' and many times not too much happens.
No. A round with one knockdown will always be scored 10-8, UNLESS the boxer who was knocked down thoroughly dominated the round..in which case it is scored 10-9 for the boxer who scored the knockdown. Case in point, the 6th or 7th round of Calvin Brock vs. Jameel McCline. Brock was down early in the round, but dominated the rest of the round hurting McCline toward the end... 10-9 McCline. Rounds in which the winning fighter is awarded less than 10 points are ONLY caused by point deductions resulting from fouls.
On his unofficial cards, but yes. Teddy Atlas and Harold Lederman use the official 10-point must system when scoring fights unofficially... Usually taking care to explain the system to us as they go... which is why the TS should prolly know this **** before bringing it to the board lol
the OP is technically wrong, as it is in the rules to allow for a drawn round. However, in reality he is right in that judges very, very rarely score even rounds. 999 times out of a 1000 they will give the round to a particular boxer. therefore if you are going to score the fight and compare scorecards, if you are going to do it realistically, you shouldn't score an round even because in reality it is unlikely to happen that way in any big fight.
I was just a few posts in and annoyed that a 'debate' had even started on something you can look up so easily. atsch
I dont like to give even rounds either and usually i dont, but the 1st round of this fight was even neither did much to win it and neither deserved to lose it. in the 10th Arreola was on him and was showing effective aggression even had Adamek off balance and on his bike after Chris hurt his hand(around that time) Adamek came back and scored with a lot of counters, Adamek landed more pitty pat shots and Arreola landed better punches early another round neither deserved to lose. ANyways no where in the rules does it say you cant score around even. Official judges have been doing it throughout history.
