Look Tarver a good fighter, probably a b- but he gets overrated, I really see him as a one hit wonder. Apart from beating an old, drained Roy Jones what has he really done? Hopkins beat him, Dawson beat him, I felt Kayode beat him. Danny Green was a bum,

exactly, and I dont hear anyone saying that either. it's not like people go around saying he's some exceptionally great fighter. the only way you can call a fighter overrated is if you hear a surplus of people overrating him, and i've never heard anyone overrate antonio tarver.

I think Tarver gets the due he deserves. I think he had what it took to be an ATG if he started his pro career while he was still a teenager.

Antonio Tarver is a superb fighter who started his career extremely late and reached to the heights to be mentioned with the names like Roy Jones Jr and Bernard Hopkins. The guy was a former crack head and didn't go pro till way past his prime at 28 years old. In his short career he complied a stellar resume. He may not be considered an ATG because of his short career, but he will be look at as a legend. When you look at what he accomplished so far out of prime, one can only wonder what he might have accomplished if he went pro during his peak years.

I rarely hear people praise Tarver that much. He's remembered for beating Roy and Rocky Balboa and that's it. And getting humiliated by Hopkins.

If anything, he gets underrated. Even though the era wasn't strong, he beat several guys who were top rated LHWs at that time and has one of the better resumes at 175 in the 2000s.

He wasn't a great but he was a good pro fighter.

Who would be overrating him? The OP doesn't address what supposed exaggerated praise he's received - which would, you know, be a prerequisite of being overrated.

Although he loss the first fight and got his jaw broke, his second win over Eric Harding was impressive. Eric Harding was a damn good fighter, gave RJJ one of his most challenging fights, as RJJ couldnt really land cleanly on him until he tore his bicep muscle. RJJ was winning the fight, but the guy won 4 rounds off of Jones coming into the 11th. And this was a prime RJJ.

He's not overrated at all. Pretty much everyone regards him as a good, solid fighter who was able to stay around the top mix for a while, but nothing special, which is spot on.
