Tarver will never be the same since hopkins clowned on him, I say woods wins by decision. Tarver excecuted just like joe is about to be.
I believe James Toney's "chocoloate ******" was more amusing than milkdud - But didn't Toney call him that as well? Tarver got beaten by Harding, Jones Jnr and Johnson before beating them in rematches and he want's to be called "legend killer" - Ridiculous.
He didn't execute his gameplan because he was getting his ass kicked. Bhop took the jab away and the beatdown commenced. Tarver was never in the fight, and was in geniune shock at how badly he was getting exposed. He simply gave up in the latter rds.
I disagree. From the opening round, Tarver did not use his jab. Hopkins didn't necessarily take it away. He just didn't use it. He came in with the wrong plan. Looking for that one big punch. My guess is that because he was bigger than Hopkins, he figured that one clean left would do the job. Too bad he was facing Hopkins. I am giving Hopkins full credit for the win but i also think Tarver didn't help himself by fighting with the wrong game plan.
Tarver broke his jaw early in the Harding fight. I know there is no excuse but it is what it is. He did KO Harding in their rematch. And i thought he beat Johnson in both fights. The judges were just falsely giving rounds to Johnson because of his aggressive style. But it was Tarver who was outboxing him and landing the cleaner shots. In the rematch, he dominated Johnson. And while Tarver did lose the 1st RJJ fight, it was not really RJJ beating Tarver as it was Tarver just giving away rounds due to inactivity. That's really no excuse but still, RJJ was not impressive in the win.
I thougt Tarver did look pretty awful physically against Hopkins, like Manny Steward kept pointing out, and of course BHop had a lot to do with how bad Tarver looked that night. But although i keep hearing otherwise, against Muriqi and Santiago i saw pretty much the same Tarver i was always used to seeing. He's always had a cautious, somewhat hesitant style. It's just in the guy. He'll never be a toe-to-toe warrior who will fight hard for 3 minutes a round unless an opponent forces him to. I think he's still good enough to beat Woods, but Dawson i think- no wait, i KNOW will be a different story.
This guy had to lose like 20lbs of muscle: This content is protected This guy just had to get his fat ass in shape: This content is protected It's not the same and that is such a bull**** excuse :deal
Tarver's legs look much worse to me now than they did in 2004. He isn't the same fighter. He doesn't pivot as well -- always a key for a stalker-type fighter -- and has dropped off significantly in output. He's finished, or at least he will be after Woods gets done with him.
The Tarver that fought Griffin, Harding, and Jones the first 2 fights would win by KO and destroy woods. But he hasn't looked right since the Hopkins fight. The speed he displayed in the first fight with Jones was pretty damn good. But his hand speed now is just horrible. His power looks like it's still there cause He KO'D his last opponent, but that was a D-level fighter. It's a toss-up right now between him and Woods:think
No version of Tarver would ever destroy Woods, he's never been particularly good Woods is in the form of his life at the moment, with it all to prove. He needs to win to try and tempt Joe into a big money fight. Tarver looks like a man thats disinterested, with his best days behind him. That will be the difference in the end
