Cleary, Bob Arum is ultimately making all the decisions. I'll get into the issue of what happened between Margarito and Williams after their first fight because Team Margarito was extremely vocal about that situation, but as far as what's happening now it's all Top Rank. Margarito would obviously fight Williams if that's what Arum wanted, and everybody knows it.
Of course, because it never happened. I think that goes without saying, eh? Williams had room to weasel out of it, and that's exactly what he did.
Yeah that's what I'm saying too. Arum won't feed Margarito to Williams this soon, he will make as much money as he could from him then throw him in there against Williams, that's what all promoters do. His next fight should be a decent one then comes a rematch with Cotto(to make sure Cotto gets a fair share of the hype IF he manages to win), if Margarito wins both then there's still a chance the fight with Williams won't happen as well. That's his meal ticket at Welterweight right now and won't throw him away this soon. As I always say, this is a business as it's a sport. To add something, I don't really think that Margarito would fight him if he wanted and Arum is stopping him, pretty sure BOTH don't want it. After his fight with Cotto he seemed to mention DLH more than anyone else, when that didn't happen another set of plans were mentioned and when he was personally asked about Williams he responded with "I was refused, Williams should wait as well". Meaning he doesn't intend to as well, whether Arum told him to throw in answers like that or not is unknown.
Yes, he did. If Williams had something bigger and better to go and do, like Margarito these days with potential fights with the likes of Shane Mosley, ect, than it wouldn't have been as weaselish. But Williams just wanted to run away from the win. Margarito on the other hand, has much bigger fish to fry right now. This is a no brainer.
Te biggest fish right now for Margarito is Williams and everyone knows it, there is no bigger for Margarito out there unless you want to mention DLH and DLH is out of the question. The reason?, Williams already fried him.
You're so good at reading what other people MEANT to say! You sure when Margarito said This content is protected
This or that it's still an excuse to refuse a rematch offered by a guy that beat him, which was also a career high payday.
Possibly the same outcome. Williams narrowly outpointing Margarito with activity and amateur style flurries, while Margarito wins in actuality by landing more legitimate punches, and the cleaner harder shots.
Not commercially, and not aesthetically would the Williams fight be the best or the biggest option for Margarito. Not at all. Mosley, a Cotto rematch.. Even a Mayorga fight would be more entertaining than watching Paul Williams shoe shine combinations and move around the ring like a rabbit on speed trying to play keep away from Margarito. Why the hell would we need to see that again? If I want to watch that kind of fight I'll rewatch the Olympics.
OK....you probably know Margarito's busy for a while right. So you expect him to start talking about Williams because he had a good win tonight? He's not even talking aobut Mayweather....what are YOU talking about. Why is Williams chasing someone he already beat anyway? Ask yourself that. And NO, it's not about giving someone a chance.
Entertaining or not this will draw a lot especially right now, Williams being promoted as the guy that already beat him coming off two first round KOs with Margarito looking to avenge the loss coming off a shocking KO victory over Cotto is good enough reason to get the people tuning in. As long as the PPV is purchased and tickets are sold out the guys that put it on don't give two shits if people are leaving the arena or people switched off the TV. As long as it sells then they're all good and happy and I don't think selling this fight will be any difficult at all. Margarito's team considered fighting Clottey next in a rematch, I don't see how Clottey is far more entertaining than Williams.
