I don't favour him, I just don't write him off. Hmm you've got me there. Was that a recent comment? I don't remember making it.
I think Jones is probably the best pick. And you can pick absolute prime Jones, too. But he might just get KTFO.
Not very recent. Yes Saad could never be completely written off against anyone, agree. He has enough power and stamina to be somewhat dangerous for any 175.
Right. From 1947 to 194 9, before he moved up to heavyweight, Charles had a great record at light heavy. In July 1946 Charles wasn't one of the best fighting machines ever, because we can see him almost get starched in 55 seconds against Marshall in 1946. That's not "an agenda." It's just someone with their eyes open acknowledging what's there on film. For TWO YEARS (1947-1949) before he won the vacant heavyweight title against a guy who had already lost two title challenges, Ezzard Charles was nearly unbeatable at light heavyweight. But there were QUITE A FEW Light heavyweights in history who looked unbeatable for a couple of years in the division. Nobody is ignoring what a great run it was. But dismissing everyone else's chances against him is ridiculous. (And sounds like an agenda.) I'm sure there are plenty of light heavyweights in history - when they were at their very best - who could've beaten Charles at his very best at light heavyweight. Others put on stellar runs of their own for own, too. Charles wasn't some "god" at light heavyweight. He lost. And his "miraculous" run in the division lasted basically two years before he moved up. It wasn't even that long compared to some others in history.
not really, but jones and foster are closest. i've been thinking on this thread for a couple of days and i can't really figure out charles v spinks. i'd still pick charles but obviously i couldn't argue the point.
And i still do. Saad even at his best took so much punishment against fighters levels below Charles. Charles offense would do some serious damage. Saad's heart and chin would be dangerous to him in this one.
Let's be honest with ourselves, the correct answer is most probably none, with 1 or 2 guys able to do so, and pick up wins in a series. No one is a heavy favourite against a peak Cincinnati Cobra, and there's an excellent argument(which I agree with) that nobody is favourite at all.
Oh no not you Mc, the thread topic isn't the problem! The problem is that Welterweights are being brought up by wannabe experts!
