Not interested in BoxRec stats; but if there's any ol' timers, love to get your impressions of Danny Bartfield. He gave me boxing tips 'n saw him fight at local clubs.
jg,Danny Bartfield was a nephew of Soldier Bartfield of the 1920s..i saw with my dad ,who loved Danny Bartfield twice. The first time when he beat Morris Reif.who I had lunch with 3 years ago]and the time in MSG,1945,against the great boxer Willie Joyce...Bartfield injure his chronic bad right hand, and had to retire in the 7th round.. Danny Bartfield was a great standup boxer, from the east side, who won his first 22 bouts ,until tough Terry Young decisioned Bartfield... Bartfield's problem was a chronically bad right hand, that i feel prevented him from a title shot...He reminded me of Allie Stolz, great stylists both, but not too rugged... Sidenote--About 1945 my dad and I met Soldier Bartfield, in my uncles lunchonette, in Canarsie, Bklyn...Soldier Bartfield, who fought my idol Harry Greb several times, grabbed me in a clinch, and playfuly tatooed my stomache...He was about 55 then but was strong as hell... Hey, that is my direct connection to Harry Greb...My ribs are ok now. b.b.
Many thanks for the nuggets, b. Brings a big smile. Never seen Danny mentioned, let alone discussed here. He was a terrific guy 'n, sadly, all but forgotten helluva boxer.
