as a fan of boxing, i cant help but like joe c. do i want him to beat roy....? i havent made up my mind. i didnt like joe for years because he avoided alot of big fights.....i gave him mad respect the last couple of years with Jeff Lacy, hopkins, biaka, kessler and now jones. with that said, he fought alot of garbage fights over the years. veit 2 times, ashira (who?) , salem (who?) mkrchykn (who?) jiminez (who?) manfredo was a waste of a fight.... but i give joe props for coming all the way over here latley to the u.s. , better late than never...hopkins may have been old, but he wasnt too old to kick pavliks ass. roy is still very dangerous and this isnt a gimmie... anyway, i like the guy, he has grown on me! You are probably alone, but nice story. I don't think many people change their opinion on a fighter, they just get more and more bitter in trying to dispute what they have done. :good
I'm an American and I do not like Calzaghe. I've tried to like him but I just can't. Posting on this website hasn't made my attempts to like Calzaghe any easier.
I really don't give a **** whether or not you like Americans. That's not even relevant to this thread.
you said coming on this site has affected whether you like calzaghe. just as ridiculous as my comment.
I was first exposed to Calzaghe when he fought Byron Mitchell. He won me over with both his good performance and his hilarious interview where he claimed the knockdown was a slip. I'm hoping that Roy wins - he's always been my favorite fighter - but I have nothing but good things to say about Joe. Most of the nationalism seen on this board from the US side is really just from a small handful of posters. I've also noticed a lot of trolls trying to bait US fans to become upset and speak against the UK. Despite what Arran thinks, there isn't and hasn't been any resentment toward you guys in the past 100 years.
I'm not crazy about him, but I enjoy watching him fight. Though the way he throws his punches irks me at times. But I understand that stems from regularly injuring his hands. Either way, I don't think the hate he receives is warranted. I also think it's funny how quickly people dismiss his wins over Lacy and Kessler, when at the time Joe fought them, both were not only the biggest perceived threats in his division, but were favored to beat him. Joe is a good fighter and deserves more respect than he gets.
When did I say your comment was ridiculous? I simply iterated that I don't give a **** whether or not you like Americans. There are a lot of Calzaghe threads on this forum. Many of them only serve to reinforce why I don't like Calzaghe. Hence, posting on this website does not help me in my attempts to like Calzaghe.
Kessler was actually the underdog. Regardless, that type of **** happens all the time. There were plenty of Calzaghe fans who dismissed Hopkins' wins over Trinidad, Tarver and Wright leading up to the Hopkins/Calzaghe fight. Hopkins was the underdog in all three of those fights.
Calzaghe is okay for a sack of ****! Here's to hoping he *****-slaps Jones all over the ring. GO JOE! :hh
