Nah...he was a very very good fighter at one point. Quiting twice doesnt diminish that.

Plenty of greats have said No Mas...

Not to say Freitas was a great....but he was damn good at one point.

I agree...I didnt think the first one was as bad as people made it out to be, but with the second one, that sealed his legacy

Not a Brazilian, but the fact that he's celebrating after that second quitting is what gets me.

I'm not Brazilian, but I'm living in Brazil right now.

The feeling here seems to be that he was too successful in other areas and not hungry enough for boxing. Nobody really thinks that badly of him for it.

I think it would be pretty foolish to look upon him in that way. Not everyone's career follows the same path. Freitas seems to be one of those guys who splashed in with a vengence and then burnt out on the sport.

I'm not a Brazilian, I'm just a fight fan who happens to be an unrepentant yank and from my side of things he's a sucker.

That bothered me most of all. He parades around the ring and pounds his heart, taking away from Juan Diaz's moment and acting as though he's entitled to the spotlight after quitting on the stool because he is beloved Popo Freitas. Better yet, he ducks out of the ring after that act and declines interview. We don't hear a word explaining his actions for weeks, and even then, it's only a statement of the obvious: that he's quitting boxing for good.

Comebacks after retirement annoy me enough, but I'm not sure anyone's return from retirement could annoy me more than if Freitas does it after this behavior.

I figured he was saying goodbye to all his Brazilian fans in attendance so I was ok with it.

but now he's talking of fighting one more time :?

I can't speak for Brazilians, but perhaps the culture is different there. Maybe they don't require that a warrior go out on his shield the way we do. Personally, I am a product of my own culture, and want to see a guy not accept defeat so easily, so I can't call myself a fan. Who knows, maybe this kind of thing is acceptable there.

They do, however, claim Jofre as their own, and that's plenty. :smoke Jofre was The Man in big ****ing capital letters.

I will remember Freitas as a devasting puncher until Oscar Suarez becamse his trainer, then he took up ballet.
