Bellew never lived up to his pre-fight 'I got powahhh' hype at LHW and often boxed cautiously at range but since he's campaigned at CW he's been way more aggressive and looked for the knock out...

    JOHnny nelson
lost his first 3 fights as a pro made himself into a sparring partner mentality.
always boxed in the hit and not be hiit style playing it safe

then got a world title fight through connections and stunk the place out hardly throwing a punch v a fighter in de leon who could not get near him to throw a punch.
    worst title figh ever.

then in his next chance done it again.

fought on the road v heavies like corrie sanders and aldison rodriguez / akinwande as a cruiser v a heavy took them to points.
then in his last chance actually won a world title / got some confidence and actually planted his feet / and low and behold the man had power .

defended the cruiserweight portion he had 18 times or so.

for a fighter who lost his first 3 pro fights / that must be unheard off at any weight.

Marquez and Bradley jump to mind.

Maciej Sulecki is a good recent example.

Today's fans with today's standards... Bernard Hopkins, Muhammad Ali, Jersey Joe Walcott, Ivan Calderon, Juan Manuel Marquez, probably a ton more legends that would show the embarrassing nature of what most boxing fans view as both "boring" and "exciting."

Alexander Povetkin applies here. I never found him very boring, although I know many did especially in the Atlas days, but he certainly became a thrill giver for boxing fans with his fights over the last few years now. Orlando Salido to a lesser extent. He always fought more or less the same, but as his skill and seemingly will increased along with his opposition, he has produced some great action fights consecutively going back to the Juanma bout at least of late when it seemed his career was overall largely "meh" until said stretch.

You are right though. Honestly, not too many. And those that you can make cases for generally weren't all that boring before they had action fights later on, but that's just my opinion. Think about a current boxing fans' whiny and complaining demeanor and all the things they labor on about. With that, I fancy the above fighters certainly check in.

Hopkins was boring his whole career until the last 20 seconds of his last fight when he became exciting

Maybe you do, and its quite likely to be true. But to state that only the last 20 seconds of Hopkins“ career were exciting... it just baffles my mind how childish one can be.

Stupid joke. How does that make me stupid when you are the one dishing out childish humour?
Or did the "grow the **** up" part get to you?

Juan Manuel Marquez. Started out painfully technical and was overlooked which bores most but changed to bang more often.

As many people already said, Marquez was considered boring by the mexican fanbase when he was starting, he couldn't put a fanbase with a pretty style like Finito or Canto.
