Any fight in boxing now that would come close to the Fury-Usyk I hype?

More hype around all 3 wilder fights. Unless you look for this fight, you wouldn't even know it's on. Usyk just not popular

 

Regionally, I'd add Inoue vs Nakatani in Japan.

 

Canelo/Benavidez would be bigger in America but not globally.

 

I don’t think it’s any hype outside the hardcore fans, casuals don’t even know this fight is happening, I barely know it’s happening…

 

I think Dela Hoya versus Jake Paul would do some numbers.

 

health can be a MF like that. Often it’s just down to genes.

 

I reckon Canelo-Crawford before the Madrimov fight would've come close

 

Tank vs. Garcia 2 very well could do it

 

I think Usyk-Dubois could be built because of the controversy, although I still think Usyk-Dubois is a better fight.

 

Mayweather comes out of retirement to fight Jake Paul...

It wouldn't be hyped by me, but it would be hyped to the gills!

Seriously though, if the powers can strip a belt of Usyk and put it on the line for Fury vs Joshua, that will still be huge Last Chance Saloon etc etc

 

There are different types of hype within boxing. Hype that only interest boxing fans, or hype that interests BOTH boxing fans and people that don't really follow the sport.

I'm based in the UK so I only have a UK perspective on this.

AJ V Fury is the only fight here that would interest BOTH boxing fans and those that don't follow the sport. This is a proper old-school domestic rivalry and grudge match, everyone here knows AJ and Fury. I could see it selling more PPVs here than Fury V Uysk 1 which was a huge fight, I mean within the British people AJ V Fury may be more hyped than Fury v Uysk. It might be hard to believe for some, but trust me - in the UK this is absolutely massive. People would get out of their way to watch this fight on TV. This is like an England football/soccer World Cup quarter or semi final but pay-per-view obviously.

Followed by Fury V Dubois especially if it was in line for a title. But defo not as big as AJ V Fury.

My guess in America would be Crawford V Canelo but I think people in the UK would be more excited for AJ V Fury. I think the last time in America that both boxing fans and those who don't really follow the sport was excited for a fight was Mayweather V Pacquaio or McGregor.

 

AJ in 2018 was a huge star here after beating a big name in Klitschko. He almost hit 2 million PPVs against Parker.

It wouldn't have been as big as AJ V Fury then but AJ V Wilder would have surpassed 2 million PPVs in the UK and would have hyped up those who didn't follow the sport. AJ losing to Ruiz really hurt his rep and the excitement towards British boxing, and obvs the Uysk losses.

 

If Wlad did come back and got the Dubois fight. Especially in Europe… This would be in the same ballpark. No doubt

 

Actually a Beterbiev vs Usyk Super Fight at a catch weight just above Cruiser. I think that would be CLOSE TO as big.
