Watching Meldrick Taylor vs Julio Cesar Chavez has me really thinking about the difference between lightning quick speedy fighters and hard hitting bangers. Taylor was hitting him fast and often with everything he had, Chavez probably landed on Taylor with half the quantity he received from him but Taylor suffered brutal damage and was eventually knocked down and counted out. For most boxers these 2 attributes seem to be mutually exclusive, they either possess dominant speed or dominant power and I can't even think of a handful who possessed both elite speed AND elite power. Think about it, all the guys with sickening hand speed such as Meldrick Taylor, Zab Judah, Floyd Mayweather all lack punching power, you would think that such blinding speed would translate to harder punches based on the laws of physics but for some unknown reason speed doesn't seem to translate into increasing the power of punches. Marcos Maidana, Ruslan Provodnikov and Lucas Matthysse don't possess lightning fast hands but they all hit like freight trains and a slow as nails George Foreman is one of the hardest punchers of all time. Really the only ONE that I could come up with was Mike Tyson late 80's in his prime possessed both sickening hand speed and monstrous punching power.

Prime 1967 Ali, prime Hagler, and prime Duran all had very fast hands and sick power, throw in the late 80s version of Tyson as well.

    Louis is a good shout.

I was gonna say Roy Jones Jr.

He is the epitome of those attributes.

In the case of some speedy fighters i think they tend to slap and not punch through the target. Meldrick Taylor comes to mind.

Sugar Ray Robinson was uncommon in that he had concussive power even when he was throwing flurries or shoeshines.

I would say a young Hector Camacho especially at 130 had good power and the fastest hands I ever saw.

Speed is one element that makes power. But to maximize power you need to load up, get set, commit...Power is also relative, though imperfectly, to (mostly natural) weight. The fastest guys-in combinations at least-likely do not hit as hard as the bruisers, yet the surpise, accuracy & volume can more than make up for it. Tyson & Louis are examples but with very different styles. Louis had a much better career, but I think Tyson hit a little harder-& some garder than him. But almost nobody with the full body commitment & speed he developed.

oh boy...Robinson could arguably be tops here, but RJJ, Camacho, Tyson are up there with him. Louis is my personal favorite Heavy, both had fast hands but Tyson probably hit harder...As mentioned before...different styles and worked in completely different eras.
