Up until the New York State boxing commision temporarily stopped the White Collar events, Gleasons gym had many guys 40 and older fighting on the cards. I watched and later chatted with a guy who was a 68 year old 230 pound heavyweight. He beat the hell out of the guy who was 50. It is great to see these guys still show that heart and competetive spirit!

These bouts are really watched closely by professional boxers or trainers as refs. Some of the competitors will acknowledge a good shot and I have seen the ref give more like a standing 15 count, but several of the guys go at it harder than some of the amateur boxers!

theres a guy at my gym whos 69 that just started boxing again. its cool cuz he can still hit the bags and mitts surprisingly hard, and he still loves sparring for a good 9 rounds. its very impressive, but it makes me think every time that goddamn sylvester stallones getting old cuz all i can think about when i spar with ray is he's only 9 years older than stallone

yea i figured its like riding a bike so im not surprised that he still knows how to hit. its just shocking when someone whos 49 years older than you can still swing away lol. more than anything im impressed and surprised he still has the stamina for all the sparring he does and the work he does by himself between rounds

    really what happened with that?

why did they stop it were there any serious injuries?

I seen that on TV somewhere, like a segment on it, I thought it was pretty cool and looked like a lot of fun. I will never box seriously but I think at some time in the future I would like to train and compete in something small scale like that.
