I sort of agree but I`m not sure, I think Ezzard Charles was a lot more skilled than Kov and had a good body attack.
I meant currently competing, or of the age where they could still compete there in the case of Ward. Ezzard Charles was far more skilled than Kovalev.
Yes was gonna say it’s not quite as simple as just being a good body puncher cause if you’re in Kovalevs range he’s deadly. You could also change that to “any good nut puncher would beat him”lol
There was thread asking if Kov could beat small heavies like Marciano, well Rocky came forwards with his head leaning down to the right off center with his right glove placed in front of the left side of his jaw blocking any straight shots thrown, when a fighter jabbed at the rock they often over committed with the punch because Rock was leaning down as their head came too far forwards Marciano would thrown a fast counter right straight down the pipe which would of had the same effect if not worse that the shot Ward hit Kov with that got him in massive trouble leading up to the end of their bout.
Kov was far better than Bowe was at that stage of his career he was awful! Kov was a world champ, Bowe lost his to Holy and Ward was light years ahead of Golota! WTF?!
It certainly looked that way though that could of been as much to do with his lazy attitude towards training at the time. There are some fighters who you just can’t see many weaknesses if any at the top level but for sure Kovalevs that night regardless of the low ones did look mighty vulnerable as if he wasn’t liking it at all and wanted a way out.
The fact that Kovalev was suprsingly vulnerable in the body was evident from the first Ward fight and even in his earlier fights (although, the latter would hardly catch your eye considering how dominant Kovalev was). But this vulnerability is very hard to exploit and, I think, only Bivol should be capable of that.
