This is potentially a dumb question considering I've been a boxing fan for 25 years, or so. I've often wondered if boxers have ever used more of a wax on wax off approach to defense. As in, block a hook with more of their wrists and arm instead of the more traditional form of boxing defense.

I hope this question makes even an ounce of sense.

I’ve never heard of it, but if someone tried it I hope they’d choose this as their ring-walk music …

In bare knuckle boxing or with very thin gloves you would block hooks and such away from your body - you had the freedom of the hand, fighters such as Jack Johnson could get inside by grabbing a wrist and just reefing his foe off balance towards him.

Harry Greb did that, but only in actual fights. If you think I am full of it, send me Harry's fight footage that proves me wrong. I dare you!

Somewhat but not really. Wax on, wax off is essentially still a parry.
