Any info about the sculpture of a boxer in MSG lobby?

jg,the statue posted now, is NOT the bronze sculpture of Joe Gans,that
was in the lobby of the old MSG on 50st and 8th ave..The statue was Joe
Gans alright,and it stood opposite the ticket office in the lobby.
There is more info if you type in,"sculpture of Joe Gans,MSG ".I just did
and Pete Hamill and others wrote about the statue...b.b.

 

Thought you saved my sanity, b, but could find no evidence, after Googling "sculpture of Joe Gans,MSG", ('n I looked through several links) that the photo posted earlier on this thread was not the Gans bronze in the lobby of the ol' Garden.

If there's a second bronze, point me to a photo.

 

No jg, the links just mention the bronze statue of Joe Gans that was in the lobby...I remember that large statue of Gans in his classic posture
seen in photos of the old master... I'll try to call MSG for info...b.b.

 

So, you remember it -- as I do -- as being different then the one on the thread. The other possibility is: We're two foggy fossils.

 

No jg we are not mistaken..The one on the thread is NOT the bronze statue I saw at least 75 times with my dad, who used to say to me,
"joe Gans with my Benny Leonard ".[his idol],were the 2 best lightweights.
It was a beautiful bronze statue of Joe Gans...
As for me being a foggy fossil, well, yesterday I was carbon-dated !

One thing that came out of this episode was a life-sized statue of Joe Gans, the Negro prizefighter. Hailed as one of the finest things of its kind ever done, it is now in Madison Square Garden, New York.
