Any interest in Cotto-Martinez?

Come on Sluggles. Do you even watch boxing? Have you seen how much trouble Martinez has with a consistent jab?

 

At 154, that would be a tremendous fight. Sergio is the one who claims he can make that still....

 

Martinez knocked out 2 good boxers late in his last 2 fights! Cotto would get touched up... Martinez would win more clearly than Floyd! I really believe that..

 

hell yeah, would be very interesting, sergio would need to drop to 154 but should be able to do it, depends on his payday i guess, 2 big names slugging it out, both on a bit of a high at the moment, good time to make the fight

 

Cotto would be completely outmatched. This fight is not competitive.

I have no interest in this. What will Cotto do?

How will he corner Martinez? He's not bigger and stronger than Martinez. His jab is good, but Martinez does everything better and he's a huge puncher that could turn his lights out.

I don't see the interest...

Cotto vs Kirkland is a better fight for Cotto. I have no desire to see Cotto get brutally knocked out.

Cotto usually makes his opponent look beat up, but this won't be the case with Martinez who very well could end this early.

 

A jab by 6 foot middleweights?

What about Dzinzurik's jab? He took it completely out of the equation, and people said Dzinizurik had one of the best jabs in the sport at the time.

If Cotto was 6 ft tall, you would have a better argument.

 

Why do people want to see Cotto get ****ed up? Does anyone realistically think Cotto can win this fight?

That makes no sense when Martinez puts his face out there. He negates the need for a huge reach.

 

Just like you believed Cotto would beat Mayweather. I can't take you seriously Sluggles.

 

Martinez is neither faster nor more technically sound and he is troubled by "boxers". Miguel is also much more experienced than Sergio. He would be eating jabs and left hooks to the body in a rather easy way. His defense is very porous and Sergio's attributes lean more towards athletic ability. Martinez is good but far from what Floyd brings to the table.

There is NO WAY Cotto makes this competitive.

What the **** is Cotto going to do? Outbox Martinez? Martinez is too hesitant and cautious for that.

And if Cotto tries to play Martinez like he played Floyd, it won't work either.

Martinez has LEGITAMITE KO POWER in BOTH HANDS, (HE KNOCKS OUT MIDDLEWEIGHTS), he's faster than Cotto, and he doesn't back up in straight lines.

So what the **** is Cotto going to do?

i think there's a significant size difference that favors martinez...but he doesn't have the kind of style that would give cotto problems. both fade. martinez usually fades in the middle rounds. cotto fades late. i think cotto could do enough to beat martinez but i'm not interested in that fight. i'd much rather see martinez unify at 160 and cotto rematch floyd.

 

You sound like the same people saying Floyd would bulldoze Cotto in 6 rounds. Martinez is a good fighter but he is NOT the beast you think he is. His whole game is based off of athletic ability. Aside from the size advantage his overall skillset is nothing special.

 

Cotto has trouble with southpaws because he has no straight right to speak of and his jab is less effective and leaves him open for right counters.

Sergio is taller, making a counter over the top of the jab easier, he has very good speed, and very good power. He's also physically larger so Cotto will have trouble muscling him around and staying inside.

I think it's a pretty bad match-up for Cotto, though I would definitely watch it. I think Cotto has a good shot against just about anyone else at 154 though.
