I would seriously like to hear from you and why you like him. My South American boxing friends tell me over and over that his representation of Latino peoples is grossly embarassing. I'll stand firm in my belief that Ruiz should never be allowed to box again and if I had the power to ban him from the sport, it wouldn't take me a second to do it. He's the worst excuse for a heavyweight boxer that I've ever seen. Just the very thought of him being associated with Oscar Bonavena and Gregorio Peralta is shameful enough.
You sir are absolutely right. Ruiz isn't just an embarassment to Latino boxers, he's a disgrace to the entire sport. As if it were not bad enought that he held excessively against virtually every fight he had against world class fighters, he shameless faked "low blows" to get cruicial point deductions (Thunder), avoid getting counted out when knocked out with a body shot (Holyfield), and force a bogus DQ (Johnson) in several of these fights. Without Don King, Ruiz would never have been able to get away with these illegal and disgraceful tactics. He is a fraud and a disgrace to the sport of boxing - a glorified clubfighter who couldn't beat world class fighters without CHEATING.
Yes, there is a guy that posts as "Zakman" he is a huge Ruiz fan maybe he will see this thread and respond.
how is Ruiz latino? practically all latino fighters are badasses who never stop trying to beat the **** out of their opponent. i guess ruiz is the exception to the rule. or maybe hes just mainly spanish
Ive never been a Ruiz fan, he just grabs to ****ing much, but he has beaten some pretty solid fighters over the years, Holyfield, Kirk Johnson and Rahman, even a roided up Toney wasn't able to hurt him, the only fight in which he was brutally Ko'd was against Tua, what people will remember most about Ruiz is when he was dominated by a little 200lb Roy Jones, but **** the guy has made the most out of what little talent he has.. But the ****ing guy has to be pushing 40yrs old so he won't be around much longer, it seems as though he has been around forever..
I like jawwny. He may not be pretty to watch but he is a vast over achiever. If you saw him around Massachusetts as a awkward amateur 175 pounder you'd find it amazing that he can beat top 10 heavyweights. And he's a pretty nice guy. Further, I think he's fighting in more aesthetically pleasing fights as of late. I hope he can get by Valuev.:smoke :smoke
John Ruiz is a true warrior! No running from mandatories, no 5 straight cancellations, no positive drug tests, no claims of being drugged, no being owned twice by oleg maskaev, no losing to a guy a foot shorter than him (though he really beat one that was a foot taller). Johnny is a warrior of kindred spirits, an honor to the great sport of boxing! war huggy bear!
Ruiz is not my personality or style. God bless the mofo but when you hold 15 times per round, accept the DQ and/or loss like a man.
Not a fan...but like anybody that steps in the ring i respect the guy....i dont respect the style he fights in though, then again im not the one in there getting swung at by a 200+ lb man either.....
