Judah caught Cotto with a couple of bolos which were mistakenly called uppercuts by the commentators

Depends if you call him 'modern' but Eusebio Pedroza was well known for that punch.

Using the bolo is dangerous. Its like throwing an uppercut from long range, it leaves you wide open.Roy Jones used it on occassion , when he had an outclassed opponent in front of him.Only someone reallly quick can use it, and it really isn't an effective punch anyway. Its showy and can further frustrate a confused fighter, but it is not a powerful punch. The guy who made the punch famous and used it to best effect was Kid Gavilan, but threre was only one Kid , and when most people use it , its just a waste of time and energy.

i'snt it just a "fake" punch? wikipedia says it isn't even a punsh at all.it is used to confuse the enemy, a decoy where you would use it to catch the enemy's attention?:huh

No its a genuine punch, kind of like an uppercut but brought from lower down by the knees.

I thought the bolo punch was where you wound up with one arm and then hit them with the other, like Sugar Ray Leonard did?
