Personally I like Lee, he just has things to work on, mainly his defense. Any news on his next fight? Vera again?
That's a bit unfair to him though, it was Manny Steward talkin so much **** and stuff. Blame Manny.:deal
People were talking like Lee was going to take out Kelly Pavlik eventually after he got experience. Anyone see that scenario happening now ?
I can't lie, he was one cat I was a little worried about. Guess I bought into Manny's BS a little too soon and didn't take enough into the fact looking at his record, the dudes he's been blowing thru were mostly all JMW's and even WW's.
True. Vera's people say they are moving on. I expect that if Steward wants Andy to have another shot at Vera, they are going to have to put up a pretty good payday to make it happen. Of course, Vera's "no rematch" talk could just be a ploy to get Lee's people to up the ante. Whatever happens, it's obvious that Lee has a lot to work on. His defense was bad, and despite landing some big shots, he failed to take Vera out. There are a lot of questions about him now and even a win over Vera wouldn't restore the confidence that some had in him.
The only thing I didn't like with the Vera fight is that Andy landed a good shot, then it was stopped right after he landed it
Yeah Lee didnt seem to be completely out of it in this fight, just not protecting himself like he should have
That stoppage was good. It allows Team Lee to say "it was premature" therefore it doesnt count as much against Andy but if the fight continued Lee would have been beaten up way more and there would have been no way to deflect that. I like Lee. But he was never ever ever going to live up to the hype Manny was praising him with. This would still be true even if hadnt lost to Vera and even if he actually beat Pavlik because Manny was saying after he had like 4 fights he was going to be a HOF or some ****. I said this from the start and most people saw it too. Lee can improve, Lee can win a title one day but wont be an elite fighter. Im sick of everyone looking for the next SRR. And not chilling and letting a young fighter develop, instead of rushing him and putting all these ideas in his head.
I still think he has the potenial of being a great, he had a bad fight, it happens. If you have ever boxed you would know sometimes you have hard fights. He was still throwing at the end of the fight, he's a tough kid with very good skills; sometimes its a loss like this as in Marvin Hagler's case that acts as a catalyst to greatness.
Andy is so unathletic and limited that he has decided to leave the US and return to Europe ... where the competition is more "Andy Lee-like" ....
