I'm bored to death at work so I'm scouting forums and websites for rumors or scoops about Bute's next fight. What we know so far: 1- Big name opponent or not, InterBox wants to put Bute back in the right at the end of March or early April. 2- HBO is showing some real interest in Bute and his huge fanbase 3- Interbox is very interested in a fight with Kelly Pavlik. Sounds like that's THE fight they want. Bute and his team are willing to fight in the USA to get it. 4- Golden Boy Promotion CEO, Richard Schaefer, wants to make Bute-Hopkins in Montreal. But GBP also received tons of calls from Chad Dawson to Felix Trinidad asking for a fight with Hopkins. So the odds of Bute getting that fight are pretty slim. **** Since they want to put Bute in the ring in March-April. Why not try putting him on the Mayweather-Pacquiao undercard? Sure it would most likely be a low profile fight and he would have to take a substantial pay cut. But it would be a big showcase opportunity in front of not only the American public but the entire world.
Interesting idea about the pac/pbf undercard......doubt it will happen.....he's got a good following of his own. What weight are they talking for a Pavlik fight?
im guessing he'll fight allan green next. fights with hopkins, dawson and pavlik dont look likely. my personal choice would be the miranda/steiglitz winner, if bute can win that then he'll be ibf and wbo champ, which will sit nicely for when we have a unification with the super 6 winner (probly abraham)
Allan Green is going to sit on his ass and wait for JT to announce his retirement. Then we get to see him get destroyed by any of the Super Six he happens to face.
alan green turned down a shot at bute about 10 months ago. cannot see team bute asking him again, the reason team green gave was not money , but that he would not travel to canada because the fight would not be on american tv. i think we will see a few marking time fights for bute until the dust settles on the super 6.
With HBO in the picture Bute might be able to attract more fighters. But the reality is there just aren't that many options out there for him.
I heard that Richard Schaefer wants Bute vs Hopkins. I don't know if Hopkins would want to risk that fight.
Either (a) we won't find out who it is until Arum makes his plans for Pavlik known after the Espino fight, or (b) he'll face whoever HBO will let him get away with, or (c) he'll face one of the scrubs who's ranked in the IBF top 15 on FNF or not on US TV. I guess if Hopkins-Dawson gets made, then Bute-Pascal (assuming he wins this weekend) would be a good possibility, but I expect Pascal to fight Dawson next. Hopkins is a pipe dream, and it would be a horrible idea for him to move up to LHW. Pavlik seems unlikely so soon, plus there are finally a few names out there interested in fighting him. 2/3 of the IBF top 15 is occupied at the moment. He's already beaten three of them. Two of them are facing each other in an eliminator. Two of them are tied up with the Super Six. One of them already has another title fight lined up. One of them just lost last weekend. Two of them are never going to leave Europe, even for a title shot. If they want to get him back in the ring quickly, unfortunately, I suspect he'll face someone like Jean Paul Mendy. If Green is willing to take a risky fight and not be the alternate for the Super Six, then I'd love to see a Green fight and shut Finito up already.
My money would be a fight with Pavlik. Pavlik will dispose of his opponent on the 19th with ease, and a fight with Bute could probably be made in March. It's just whether or not Pavlik really wants to fight someone like Bute.
Bute and Pavlik should not get in a hurry to fight each other. Both will be trying to position themselves for a fight with the winner of the sauerland six, but the tourney won't end until mid 2011. There is another title out there at 168 for Bute to grab, and I think fighting the winner of Miranda/Stieglitz is a no brainer. Bute by KO pretty much anytime he feels like it's time to close the show. Pavlik has ufinished business at 160. There's Williams, and two title holders. In this scenario you could stage a fight between a unified smw champion, and the undisputed middlweweight champion right about the time the tourney ends. That's huge, and the tourney winner would have to either fight the winner, or he would never get credit for being the #1 in the division. WAR BUTE no wait I meant WAR PAVLIK
I agree that the most feasible fight is Bute-Miranda. If Miranda wins. He might want to do an easy title defense first. But he's never been a guy who backs down for a challenge. If Bute calls him up and HBO is behind the fight. I believe it will happen.
