Exactly. So much is expected nowadays from up and coming prospects. It get's worse every damn year.

Going back to the Hatton, Calz days, who the hell did them guys fight till they got to the 25+ fight range?

And I used to think Khan had it hard. With guys like Fury, DeGale, Gavin and so on, it's as soon as they look average, they are judged to go no farther than Domestic/Euro level, which is absolutely ridiculous. We've got people writing Chris Eubank Jr off in his second fight, for gods sake.:patsch

DeGale has been escalated at a rapid rate for him to have become european champion within 11 fights. I haven't heard of this in recent times, yet we had people trashing his performance with that guy he fought for it just because he was in trouble a few times, how he was slapping and **** and how sloppy his work was. Well he's only got damn 11 fights, what did you expect?

We as fans demand way too much nowadays. It's all rush rush rush and when it's demanded and the fighter loses, it's the same people who demanded it that criticize the fighter. Ridiculous really.

And I'm not even a fan of DeGale. I hated him more than the next guy when it came to his antics with Groves, but all these grudges people hold against boxers are just over the top. I've met him, and he's certainly not a ****.

I think the thing about Jame Degale is hes a nice kid excpect when it comes to George Groves then he morphs into a complete dick. I hated him aswell around the time of the Groves fight but to be honest hes grown on me and i hope they both have great succsess before they meet again as World Champions.
We should be supporting our prospects not putting them down at every oppurtunity.

I can't be arsed supporting Degale, he's far too much of an arsehole to get excited about his fights. He bottled that Groves fight big time after all that talk and bitched about it for ages afterwards, just another flashy arsehole fighter for me.

to be honest i do think he is wary of groves and througout that fight he wouldnt press groves because he didnt like them body shots he was sending in.

The problem is that moving him at that rate means he has to be judged at that standard. Harsh, perhaps, but that's how it is.

For a long time I was one of the few slating him - everyone had bought into the hype. Groves showed that James is seriously under-developed. He has good attributes, but he wastes them with poor technique.

Actually, that European title bout showed he had some real grit when it came down to it. He applied smart pressure and good body-punching. Unfortunately, he's seriously arrogant and, whatever you believe from your brief encounter with him, all I have heard from those who work with him is that he is a complete ****.

He finds it easier to believe he was robbed against Groves and if only he'd thrown more punches he'd have won. I respectfully disagree - Groves took advantage of significant stylistic and technical flaws in James: bad footwork, poor punching form, lazy pot-shotting, and the bizarre belief that his opponents should come to him.

Until he realises he lost because Groves had the better plan, all he has is decent athleticism to carry him through and that only takes you so far.

All those things are why people have turned against him and it's largely deserved. When he fires Jim and gets himself a proper trainer and a better attitude, then I'll reassess him. But right now he just seems to like being given BJs by his team and told he's the greatest.

He has been a pro for 3 years though, he is hardly a novice. Fighting sporadically will not make you a better fighter.

By this rate by early 2013 he will have had 13 fights...I mean thats just poor.

Five years as a pro... He took the money and didn't care about being a fighter.

^ That's a bit unfair though, D. Promoters are responsible for getting you dates and decide how active you are. Inactivity is a problem with so many fighters in this era.

A very good post and effectively sums up what is wrong with this site. A few posters such as dftaylor hate degale and say he's a **** then more posters follow like sheep and start hating on any prospect who makes a mistake. The hatred on this site is crazy and is massively different to disliking someone. Bit more respect and class from posters wouldnt go a miss like skillspaybills, instead of bitter hardmen routines which got boring a long time ago.

Anyway good luck to degale, I'd like him to do a benn and go to Italy and the states and come back a more polished hungry fighter

    No way....Degale forces the hand.

For example he got a million or so right? If i were him, whilst fighting guys that moved me forward in the rankings like the P. Smith, Groves etc....there would be a ton of cheap journeymen....he could fight once every two weeks. They might be no hopers but just being out there and fighting is a huge plus from a skill progression to a commercial point.

He could easily say give me a small amount for the lesser fights.

Every 3 months big fights that will test you and before that several small hall fights against different types of journeyman.

Why cant Degale fight 12 times a year? The guy can afford it, buys two houses, safe cash in a bank...easy.

Surely if you want to be great you do what makes you great.

Well having a major bust up with his promoter/manager won't help him with his inactivity. Apparently he's under contract until April 2013 so he could spend a bit of time on the sidelines
