When he was focused and motivated against Brewster, he put on a great performance and won.. when he seemed to lack focus against Briggs he wasn't that impressive although he was 15 seconds away from winning it, literally.

But what happened since? He should at least have a few tomato can fights to stay in shape and not get too rusty.

A fight with Ruiz/Rahman/Golota/other Don King recycled heavyweights should be interesting (except for the King connection).

He will fight Nikolay Valuev in early 2008. The winner will be WBA mandatory and will fight Chagaev later.

Really? Interesting fight..... although i doubt Valuev can beat Chagaev in a rematch.. Valuev doesn't seem like the type of boxer who can adapt well.

Here's the latest on Laikhovitch and Valuev's upcoming eliminator:

Sauerland Event wins purse bid for Valuev v Liakhovich

Sauerland Event today won the purse bid for the WBA heavyweight eliminator between former champion Nikolai Valuev and Sergey Liakhovich. Sauerland´s winning bid was $670.000, with Don King Productions offering $650.000. "We are very happy to have won the bid," Sauerland managing director Chris Meyer said. "The fight will probably take place in three months and is likely to be staged in Germany.."

Valuev (47-1, 34 KOs) suffered the first loss of his career in April when Ruslan Chagaev clinched a close majority decision in Stuttgart. The 34-year-old bounced back with a clear points victory over Jean-Francois Bergeron five months later. He can´t wait to get back in the ring with Chagaev to erase the darkest hour of his career. "I want to win my title back," Valuev said. "But I have to defeat Liakhovich first. I have met him once in Los Angeles prior to my fight in Chicago. He is technically very strong. It will be a hard fight but I will win."

Valuev is likely to stage his training camp in Japan where his new coach Alexander Zimin has spent many successful years. As always, Valuev is then expected to travel to Berlin for the final tune-up some six weeks before the showdown.

Good. Hopefully he will retire that beast. I just hope he doesn't pull a Briggs moment. :patsch

I just hope not. Valuev needs to be disposed. Go Liakovich! :smoke

I think Liakhovich is done, he will have been out for over a year when he meets Valuev. I think Valuev is going to hurt him early, Sergei is gun shy and Valuev knows it. I think Valuev will end up knocking him out around the 7th.

Thank you, I meant to say give him trouble early and knock him out sometime in the middle rounds. I better change that.

Don't be embarrasssed. It would have made perfect sense in the days of the twenty round plus fights. :yep

On the subject, I would agree with you prediction on the outcome of this fight.

i agree. the white kitten fooled all of us with his performance against brewster. then showed up all out of shape against briggs and gets knocked out the ring by a guy throwing 10 punches a round. then he says he was hurt naturally. all he does is talk **** and does nothing

and how is this guy ranked #7 by the ring. let's see, he hasnt fought in one year and hasnt won a fight in 18 months :rofl and before he fought lamon, he had a 14 month hibernation. this guy is a joke. i hope the giant ends him

In April of 06 when Brewster fought Liakhovich, it was one the best fights of the year, with Liakhovich winning the fight. He seemed hurt early by a Briggs counter punch, after that he was never the same the whole fight. I was surprised to see him even trying to engage with Briggs like that in the 12th round, you should never follow a puncher and thats what he did, and payed for it by getting knocked out the ring.

Liakhovich no more deserves this title eliminator over Ruiz than I do. Ruiz, love him or hate him, got screwed outta his ranking.
