I haven't heard anything lately. I noticed the fight isn't on Showtime's schedule. Is anyone else getting the feeling this fight isn't going to happen?

The last I read couple of weeks ago on a russian news was that Maskaev was already training for the fight and the venue had not been determined yet.

Maskaev is healthy and has been in training camp preparing for a fight somewhere on Feb. 2. Any delay currently will be caused by Don King/Duva/Sam Peter camp failure to secure a fight site which they are contractual obligated to do. In fact they have already passed the deadline stipulated in the fight contract and are in violation.

I just read that there's a 90% chance this fight will land in Cancun.

    And vice versa...?
I assume they'd slot Vitali in if Peter pulled out, too.
Considering the WBC logjam at the title scene, they need to get them all fighting asap! ;)

i think so, but it's very unlikely that peter will pull out. he is (literally) hungry.

I'm thinking it's not Makaev getting cold feet this time around.

Neither guys should be getting cold feet!
Let's give them both the benefit of the doubt here...

Vitali had a thight injury when he was supposed to fight Rahman on April 30, 2005 so the fight was postponed to June 18 and later to July 23 and that was when he hurt his back n needed surgery. The fight was moved to November 12 and that was when he tore his meniscus in his knee and called it quits. Re-injured his back when preparing for the comeback fight against Jameel McCline and underwent arthroscopic surgery. Maskaev himself was announced to have had several herniated discs, a coupla bulging discs and a contusion on his ankle while running. Therefore, I ask what gives Maskaev and Vitali the right to dispute the WBC Heavyweight Title? Maskaev just knocked out Hasim Rahman in the 12th round and coming from behind on points and won a lopsided decision against some Japanese-based Uganda fighter Peter Okhello in Moskow and Vitali stopped Sanders in the Staples, LA and made one title defense against Danny Williams...???
