The problem with predicting amateur results is you really, really have to be in the know the know the depth of the division. But, ill have a shot. Results at the World Championships would indicate Daniel Beahan (91kg+) is a chance if he gets the right draw. Jarrod Fletcher carries the unofficial mantle of being our best amateur boxer - but im lead to believe the competition at 75kg is pretty tough. I would say Brad Pitt (91kg) rounds out the top 3 most likely to medal.

Fletcher is a good chance, I think he just beat the cuban in the last couple of months. I remember Kostya Tzsyu said about 8 years ago at a training camp at the AIS that Fletcher was the greatest Australian born boxer of this generation. Todd Kidd is in the mix as well:happy

75kg is brutal because of the presence of Matvei Korobov, who's P4P in the top 3 best amateurs in the world. Fletcher lost in a dual meet to Shawn Estrada of the USA; who's no slouch himself, but is very inconsistent. But yes, Fletcher is the best chance. The other thing you need to look at is the draw. It's randomized computer draw; Fletcher could get absolutely shitty luck and draw Korobov in the very first bout.

Just wondering what peoples opinions of the random compter draw.
Do u guys feel that some sort of seeded system should be used??
Im not a big amatuer boxing person...just wondering what peoples thoughts would be.

I think it's the best system. How would you seed people? What criteria would be used? It could be argued it brings subjectivity and bias instead of objectivity. Although this way, the best could fight the best in the opening rounds, meaning one doesn't advance and fatiguing the other, making him do worse on the following days. But I do like it because it also means the best fight the best, you fight whoever the random computer says you do.

Has to be a computer system, otherwise there's too much conjecture.
