I've sort of lost motivation after a tough season. I'm not sure what's next for me. I have a bout next week against a gal I lost to in July and I have no idea how to beat her so...yeah. Vonda is doin his thing. I don't think he's got a bout lined up any time soon. But he did well at Ringside this summer. Good luck to you.
We have a 60 year old in our gym who trains 3 times a week and is fitter than most there, I wish to be that fit at 60. He does have a week off every month or so which I'm sure does him good. He is in great shape too.
I'm 41 and I'm still training. My last smoker was November 10th of last year. I thought that would be my last fight but a few weeks ago I got the itch again. I'm hoping to fight agian some time in early 2009.
Just remember that as the body gets older, it needs more time to recover. So, you gotta take more rest days per week, but when you do workout, make them as intense as possible. Like... use the one minute rest periods to do exercises like lunges, pushups, squats, pull ups etc... Or, when doing an exercise session, go from one exercise to the next with no break in between... And force yourself to take more rest days. A good schedule I use for myself (47 yrs old) is: Mon (heavy) Tue (light or off) Wed (heavy) Thu (off) Fri (heavy) Sat (light) Sun (off) Only 3-4 real workouts per week. I take Thu & Sun off rather than Sat & Sun. That way, my Fri workout is a beast when most people are pooped out by Fri because they already worked out 4 days in a row with no rest.
theres a guy at my gym who's 69 soon to be 70. keeps up with the runs and spars with everyone, takes all the shots and dishes em back too. obviously his speeds not quite there anymore but he can still hit pretty hard, it's very humbling whenever someone feels like taking it easy to see him goin at it like that.
I'm a heavy weight and my goal for the next fight is 240ish. I never really know who I'm going to fight in advance so I focus on a lot of high output cardio. I fought a 20 year old brawler last year and I like to box. That was a long 3 rounds. The ring was small and he kept putting his head in my chest and rushing me. In the end I just out worked him. I only started boxing a few years ago so I appreciate the training advice. I put in a gym at home and I'm going to focus on heavy bag, double end bag, jump rope, shadow boxing and burpees (down to under 10 min for a 100 right now) until Feb 2009. Once I hit my target weight I'll start heading back into my old gym for sparing for a few months. If all goes right I'll fight in July or September. Jeff
I´m 42 and still work hard. I´m a trainer and even train my self 7 sessions per week, two days rest (wednesday and sunday) can´t live with out it and still faster then the younger people as well, wonder how long that will last, he he! At the gym we have a couple of guys that are between 55-60. Take care The Predator
My old trainer who still trains is 82. His knees are bad, but he still has great punches/ decent reflexes for his age. He trained me a few years ago, and I remember he'd still occasionally catch me with the pads LOL. Only thing he does now is shadow boxing (again mainly only punches because his legs won't allow much else), and he also lifts weights a little bit. Quite inspiring to me. Feel kind of bad though. I was his last trainee, he put so much time in to me, wanted me to fight amatuers, go to the olympics...All kinds of dreams. I could have probably acheived a good bit of success...Especially with him in my corner, but wasn't ready at the time, and then just decided against it.
