Where did you hear that? Usually the PPV numbers come about a week after......I'm expecting this one to do much less that 750K. .....if it did 750K, thats not bad at all. In fact I'd call that exellent.
I wouldn't be surprised if 24/7 increased numbers by several percent. Jerry Jones did his part to sell this too, I wonder if more than a few casual fans who happen to be NFL or Cowboys fans tuned in.
The 24/7's are really getting stale.....Pac's already been in three of them.......I really dont believe another 24/7 would have made a difference for this fight with Clottey.
Yeah, to us boxing fans. Casual fans follow that stuff. Any of my friends with HBO watch them and talk about them to me. I can SEE the impact.
To be honest a 24/7 wouldn't have helped the ppv sales that greatly. No one was interested in this fight.. Pac with Clottey even with a 24/7 would never had competed against pac v cotto's ppv sales.
.....but even the casual fans would have seen 3 series of those 24/7's involving Pac. .....another one may actually have an adverse affect in PPV buys with Pac, Roach, etc......with the same quotes from the previous series. Honestly, I'd bet Pac was relieved that HBO did'nt do a 24/7 with Clottey.........I'd bet all they would talk about was the Mayweather fight falling through, and more of the casual fans would be in tune that the fight was'nt made because Pac refused random urine and blood testing. I believe the reason that this fight was'nt promoted properly was because of the touchy situation of Pac having to explain the details of his refusal to test. The little promotion of the fight here in Los Angeles, had more to do with boxing at Dallas stadium, that in fact was mentioned in the news and papers more than hyping up Manny Pacquiao.
they said the most optimistic projection was 750,000 and that it was expected to do between 400,000 and 600,000. source is an alleged HBO exec.
