I wonder how many of them PPV buys turned the fight off after the 6th round. The fight was a ****in cure for insomnia, Clottey's fault, but we knew what was gonna happen before the fight anyways.
The card was terrible. For the sake of boxing, I hope it didn't sell too well to casual fans. I ordered it and watched it with a few friends, who train a little but haven't really followed the sport - I felt bad for making them watch it.
No I know people from Golden Boy and they say that an exec told them that HBO lost money on the fight... why do you think they delayed the release? the day of the Cotto fight they magically had their big numbers available within a day. Word is also that Manny is moving down to 140 so he can make a buck as he will not be able to fight anybody else 147 and make money as Golden Boy controls the division and Margarito can't get cleared in the US.
Which if your source is credible, this would mean that the fight likely did in the range of 500K, and they guaranteed Pacquiao too much money that the PPV will not cover Pac's guarantee. Its not official yet, but folks, it means Pac is not the PPV draw you all thought he was. If this becomes official, its going to be an embarrassment to Bob Arum, as there is no way that they would be able to call of a 50/50 split against Mayweather. Now there are going to be two road blocks to a Mayweather-Pac fight being made......the drug testing and the financial split.
That is true. they will line up Valero next. Regarding the PPV sales. I know of 3 fight parties that got cancelled bc of the weather. I called 2 of my peoples who watch fights they both told me there were watching NCAA basketball and wasn't paying for that. oh yeah, people remember those shitty undercards bouts from Pac-Cotto.
Where there is a big fight, there are usually about 3 homes in my block that have a fight party....... No party on my block for Pac-Clottey.
hahaha, omg!!... floyd must be laughin his tits off cos ya just know him and shane are gonna do 1,000,000+
Agreed!:good Those kinds of numbers with the BULL**** undercard and unheard of Josh Clottley would amaze me. I'm guess it did around 600K in PPVs. Manny was the ONLY draw and lets face it....there was LITTLE TO NO MARKETING. If it had a 24/7 I think it would have done close to a million
Ah man....the impact HBO's 24/7 has is pretty thick. It's an award winning documentary which many casual sports fans watch. It does without a doubt helps PPV numbers. It's proven with the increase in fights that have 24/7 vs the ones that do not.
ACtually it's already been well documented in major news papers and other medial outlets that the VAST majority fault Floyd's actions for the fight not happening with Manny...not the other way around. I just think that they didn't do 24/7 b/c the cost wouldn't have warranted that kind of indepth marketing given NO ONE KNEW JOSH. The weight of this fight was all on Manny's shoulders to be successful and I think they feel Manny is a big enough draw to do GREAT numbers without the extra costs.
24/7 didn't help out Jones vs. Calzaghe, that fight bombed. You need to have an intriguing fight with ingtriguing fighters to be effective. Everyone already thought Clottey had no chance. If the people would've seen just how bad Clottey's training camp was, they would've been more turned off.
DUH....:rofl Of course Shane and Floyd are going to do $1Million +. They got TWO HUGE names and TWO OF THE BEST WW's fighting it out...and the fight has been LONG overdue. The Marketing thus far is 10 times that Josh vs Manny got. No brainer which fight is gonna do better numbers and I don't think anyone felt any differently. The big question is how well would a very poorly put together fight with a bunch of **** undercard fights with only ONE named fighter in Manny, would be able to in terms of PPV numbers...the gate numbers were great! One of the best ever...but the PPV numbers will show how popular Manny really is.
Jones Jr vs Joe without 24/7 would have been a disaster. Jones Jr is not a top draw...nor was he ever. His biggest PPV numbers were not evenn hitting the halm Million mark. And Joe....lets face it...not a big name here in the US.
