Any pre-Sullivan fighters you would pick over Marciano under modern rules?

It is bizarre to me that anyone would have an opinion one way or the with any conviction. It’s like asking who wins the fight between Tom Sawyer and Wally Cleaver. The “serious” and sometimes contentious speculation the of the head-to-head matchup‘s between generations for which there is little information to base any opinion escapes me.

90+ billion people did live pre-1900. A few would probably make for great heavyweights.

    Pre- Sullivan,

Not likely. If Peter Jackson was in the mix, maybe. He seems like a bigger version of Ezzard Charles. Too bad there is no film on him in the ring.

Pat Killen, active about the same time Sullivan was might be an upset type of choice. He was big for the times, 6'1 1/2" tall and he could punch with 52 KO's in 61 total fights. Why Killen never fought Sullivan in the 1880's deserves an explanation as they share common opponents. Did Adam Pollack cover this in his Sullivan book?

From my vantage point, Killen would have been Sullivan's biggest threat in the 1880's excluding Peter Jackson whom he would not fight.

The answer of what pre Sullivan fighter could beat the Rock is easy. It would take a man who was just as undefeated as Marciano himself. A man that rule the early 1800's. A record so amazing, that Marciano in his life time would wake up every day and wish he was just as amazing as this champion.

I am talking of the Chicken Game Henry Hen Pearce. The perfect 7-0 champion. The moment the bell rings, the Chicken Game would land his whooper of a right hand and knock Marciano right out of the ring. People would be shock as a daze Marciano climbs back in the ring against the invincible Pearce. Pearce than lands other right and Marciano goes down again. Marciano barely beats the count at 9 before the old Chicken Game lands the old 1 2, before Marciano falls out of the ring AGAIN. This time Marciano does not beat the count. winner by knock out at 1 min and 37 seconds and now 8 and 0 is the Chicken Game Henry Hen Pearce. Later that night after Pearce downs a beer, he knocks the great Ali out in 2 rounds.

    Pearce sounds formidable indeed!

Could he be the new Dustin Nichols?

It's says he challenged anyone apart from Sullivan, for any ammount of money, on CBZ, so maybe Killen didn't want to fight him.

We've just been thinking about bareknuckle. (including myself)

    How about Melankomas and Glaukos?

It's hard to know, because we basically just have legends.

Perhaps Glaukos was tough enough, and hard enough hitting, and perhaps Melankomas would outslick him.

What was the date when he said this? Perhaps Sullivan was in-active at the time?
