he has had acting parts -as an old boxer.
he said he was taking some writing classes. he's still quite hyper when he gets going. he was quite excited about imaginative writing. he said the woman who takes the class was a bit concerned about all the violence in his writing. he said "but she told me to write what I was thinking about, but now she’s ****ing scared of me!" john has a boyish smile so its hard to tell if hes not pulling your leg. he has a bad eye, but I wouldn’t tell him! the man is still quick and funny.
I know the guy who organised the event and can say Johns doing ok with the dinner circuit, since he always always ends with the line "its been a financial pleasure" so i am sure hes doing great.

I asume john felt he was not the real john conteh for the rematch. maybe he felt he did not do himself justice. I have seen the fight and he did not look to have it anymore that night.

I find it difficult to rationalize how the two fights could have been so different, only 8 months apart.

Hell, he wasn't the real John conteh for the first match...I'm convinced that Conteh would have neatly and expertly outboxed Saad all over the place to take a unanimous 15 round decision in '74 or '75. The one handed boxing lesson he handed out to Lopez way back then told us all how very very good John Conteh was.

How do you account for the difference between the two Conteh-Saad fights? The difference was drastic, and they were only 8 months apart. Was it a case of Matthew Saad working Conteh out, or did Conteh decline significantly even in such a short period of time?

I think the first fight was so close...Conteh showed flashes of his old brilliance, like a reprise of his best days...he came so close, for it to unravel so at the end, that it took something out of him..it could have been mental as much as physical..and the in the rematch he just couldn't summon up the old ghost of the past as well as he did the first time.
