in the sence that in rocky I an unknown underdog gets a shot and damn near wins .in rocky II he gets another shot and wins.has this ever happened in any real life title fights in any weight class?
Not exactly the same, but Mike Weaver was relatively unknown when he received a shot at Holmes and gave him a great fight. A year later, he fought John Tate for WBA title and won it. Louis had some tuff fights with some previously unknown fighters and awarded them rematches.....Of course none of them were able to capitalize.
well lee roy murphy and chisanda mutti damn near recreated the rocky 2 ending in their cruiseerweight title bout back in 1985. except lee roy got up at 7 instead of 9 to win the fight

Jersey Joe Walcott getting his chance against Louis. Walcott had retired, was working in a cannery in Jersey not far from Rocky's South Philly when he got a chance for an exhibition against Louis. However,NY State boxing rules insisted it be for the belt, and Jersey Joe, love his lateral movement style, almost did it, just like Rocky.
