Any similar groupings to the black murderers row?

Groupings, perhaps not, but certainly countless of individual fighters, yes.

 

Not sure if they had a name but all the great Philly middleweights of the 70s like Briscoe, Watts, Monroe, Hayward, Hart etc.

 

Back in the '70s there was an absolute glut of featherweight talent converged on the west coast and they were all fighting each other. You had Danny Lopez, Bobby Chacon, Art Hafey, Ruben Olivares, Tury Pineda, Shig Fukuyama, Joe Medrano, Frankie Crawford, Famoso Gomez, Jose Luis Martin Del Campo, Raul Cruz and probably a half dozen more I'm forgetting. Man, you couldn't turn on 'Boxing from the Olympic' without seeing a good featherweight match.

Very interesting subject matter, by the way.

 

I don't know if this counts, but I found it strange the middleweights/super middleweights of the US and the UK didn't fight each other (Jones, Hopkins, Toney vs Benn, Chris Eubank etc).

 

This post made me think of another grouping, which was the British middleweights. I know its probably over about a 15 year period, but for me it seemed whenever one was headed off into the sunset, another one was just coming up. I think for me as a fan it began when Bunny Sterling lost to Kevin Finnegan and from there one begat another. Man, it was like Alan Minter, Tony Sibson, Roy Gumbs, Mark Kaylor, Errol Christie, Herol Graham, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Michael Watson. Good time to be a fan.

 

After Hagler retired the late 80s / early 90s had MW fighters such as Mike McCallum, Michael Nunn, Roy Jones Jr, Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Michael Watson, Julian Jackson, Herol Graham, Gerald McClellan.

 

The 1970s and 1990s were vibrant eras for British Middleweights guys like Rowe, Blake, Sterling, Minter, Finnegan, Scott all had some good fights together. Even though Sibbo fought some of those guys I consider him part of the next generation. He sort of closed out that group of 70s guys.

 

Those are guys were all world champions and in a few cases even hall of famers. They all fought on the premium networks and all became millionaires. Many are still talked about today. I wouldn’t compare those men to the murderers row bunch

 

My oh my, what a lovely trip back down memory lane, such names, such memories, was it Aileen Eaton, or George Parnassus, that promoted at the Forum ?

 

All those names waft me back to my youth, thanks , you could maybe add the fierce and fearless Frankie Lucas to that illustrious list.

I believe Aileen promoted at the Olympic Auditorium, but she may have also held shows at the Forum.

 

Well you had the Fab Four, who really should have been five with Benitez added to the mix.
