Is there a way to prevent headbutts when you are coming in throwing punches or in clinches? Alot of fighters seem not to able to stop or prevent clashes of the head.

It happens to just about all fighters if they actually mix it up in their fight. It is more prevalent when a conventional fighter is in with a southpaw.

Keeping a high, tight guard is the best way I can think of to help lessen the chances of headbutts. You are going to rub heads with in-fighting, it's just the nature of the beast in that posture, but you seldom get those severe head clashes when in this posture.

So basically, keep a high guard and don't lead with your chin.

A lot of that happens because fighters don't know where to put there heads when fighting in close. Watch Archie Moore or James Toney; they fought inside all the time and never got cut, very very rare. Also, Chavez and McGirt.
If you are in close and square up, not only are you going to eat uppercuts like popcorn, your head is in a bad place. Get real sideways and your left shoulder in first.

keep your chin tucked in tight when at close range and get in first if you see it coming.

Greys correct, its Posture and Feet, not Face 1st. Let the Body control where the Head is.
