I guess getting brutally KTFO by Arreola 4 1/2 years ago sent him a little message that boxing wasn't for him. And he listened to it.
I used to think he was a better prospect than Wilder. He may well have been in fact, but he wasn't as protected as Wilder.
He's currently a resident of "Bolivian" Seriously, I'll never get how or why he was given the push he was given. He was slow, not overly athletic, not a high volume or high skillset second sport guy (like a Rahman per se), He had power as he was a huge guy, but I think most knowledgeable guys knew he was an eventual trainwreck. Nice educated guy but he was in way over his head. I think after the Arreola fiasco, he realized he had bumped his head on his ceiling.
I liked him. He reminded me a little of Earnie Shavers. Shame he didn't continue, but I guess the Arreola fight broke his confidence, and he realised his dreams in the sport were never going to materialise. I respect that, and hope whatever he's doing is working out for him. Seemed like a nice guy.
I saw him and Jonathan Banks fight at the Barclays on an undercard one night. It was clear they had an agreement to shadow box each other for 12 rounds. I was surprised their purses were not withheld. During their pantomime a fight actually broke out in the crowd that everyone agreed was better than the fight in the ring.
Banks totally surprised everyone the first fight with the KO. The fight you mentioned was the second fight. Banks had Mitchel hurt once or twice then never followed it up with anything. Seth was timid and cautions the whole time. I think the second fight was "paid" for, but who knows.
