Anybody believe Tyson/ Douglas was FIXED?

Yes, I'm a massive Tyson fan, but he simply did not show up mentally or physically that night & Douglas fought the fight of his life! People are quick to criticise Douglas for the way he went downhill after the fight, but even if Douglas would have stayed in shape after, I very much doubt he would have ever been able to repeat such a performance!

Tyson, by his high standards at the time, given his talent, ability, etc, was very poor indeed! For the first time the jab wasn't there a great deal, the body attack wasn't sustained like in previous Tyson fights, the head movement was not there!

Tyson has to be given a great deal of credit for taking so much punishment. Anyone who ever questions durability need only watch the Douglas fight. Mike was absolutely pummelled! Yet he still mamaged to put Douglas down & I think Tyson should have been awrded the victory because of that knockdown as Douglas was down for ten seconds or more!

However, the was no way fixed! More money would have had to have been placed on James for any investigation or allegations to have been brought to the surface! Douglas was, at one stage, a 45-1 outsider!

Mike clearly neglected training & basically thought his opponent was not up to it! He was proved so right & by being proved incorrect that should have been the warning to go back to Kevin Rooney! Maybe Mike did get the warning signs, but I've no doubt if he did, outside influences made him turn the other cheek in respect of reuniting with Rooney!

Funny thing is, if Rooney/Tyson had worked together around that period (when he lost to Douglas), King could have remained promoter & he would still have had some control over the hottest commodity in Boxing! However, King & his cronies probably knew if Mike got back with Rooney, he would have got rid of him & his punks!

  2. For those of you who think it was fixed, Elvis, and Michael Jackson are still breathing somewhere, Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in killing Kennedy, and the world will end on December 31, 2012, the ground will open up and everybody will fall under...
You wackos make to many excuses for Tyson getting his ass whipped, i guess there's an excuse Lennox beat his ass, and Danny Williams, and Kevin Mcbride, while your at it:lol:...
It's been almost 20 friggin years accept it that Buster was the best fighter that night..

Buster was not in the right mind frame (his mother had just died) that night.

Prime Douglas would have finished that in around 7.

I don't think this is a dumb thread at all.

The question has been posed before and the fact is that there is sufficient evidence for it to be raised again - and probably always will be.

Tyson is told to stay down by his corner. Many commentators that were there said they heard it and his fumbled attempts to grab his gum shield looked staged. I normally frown on conspiracy theories but I have to confess this fight is one I have never been able to make a 100% decision.

I don't think it was - but I do have a degree of doubt about it.

NO. tyson had taken douglas too lightly, hadnt trained properly and was ****ed at the end, eye like a cow's ****. i wouldnt say mike was out-classed, buster just caught him at the right time and ****ing went for it. fair play to him, he deserved the win, regardless of don king kicking off about the so called long count (cant remember what round it was when buster went down).

Tyson lost the title and didn't fight again for a HW title for 6 years (he pulled out of the Nov 91' fight with Holy).

Don King lost a hold of the HW title and didn't get a fighter who owned a HW title belt until September 94, 55 months later.

Tyson got brutalized at the end of that fight, how could anyone think it was fixed? Plus it pretty much derailed his career.
