:good People don't realize how strong Hatton was on the inside. . . It took every bit of Mayweather's refined technique, and strength (Mayweather is a lot physically stronger than people credit him for) to get Hatton. . . But it wasn't just raw strength alone, Hatton had inside-technique as well. . . The "danger zone" for Hatton was that mid-range area trying to close the gap - which is wehre marquez is strongest - it would be a very good fight. . . Hatton had very good power on the inside - with his short, squat, stout arms, he could turn those hooks over fast, and hard. . . The way he could step around you, and dig, and shovel those uppercuts, and hooks to the rib cage, gut, and liver was something to behold. . . Hatton would definitely be the first fighter to really test Marquez's body. . . Also, something I remember Malignaggi said about Hatton was that he had a "very awkward head movement" when coming inside, which is why he said he found ti hard to catch him coming inside. . . Hatton was far more than your ordinary "come forward brawler".
He was the fighter that got me into boxing. First fight I watched was Hatton v Thaxton (Im a norfolk boy). Followed his career ever since, culminating in a trip to vegas for the pacquiao fight as by coincidence I was in LA at the time. Top man outside the ring, crazy fans, whats not to like?
For Ricky to achieve what he did and become the money fighter in his division (and others) was quite something, given his lack of outstanding ability. Sir Ricky Hatton for President!:happy
