    Margarito is a joke.

He needs to accept the rematch with Williams and get schooled again.

    He is also a hypocrite.

Mosley isn't what he was, but what he is for the most part is still pretty damned good, for the most part. He's still better at welterweight than he was at 154, he's still a big name, and he's still a legitimate top 5 contender.

Williams is moving up to 154lbs, and as Thread Stealer stated, the Cotto rematch isn't till next summer. So...that leaves Margo sitting on the title, or fighting someone who simply isn't as credible, or marketable as Mosley would be.

How is that to be commended?

if he was maybe coming off a loss or completely and totally washed up (which he isnt)

    maybe.

but margarito didnt even state that as a reason for turning down the fight... it was a money issue... if he got 10 mil he would have still fought him.

so really this thread makes no sense

Commending him? Maybe as a business man, but not as a fighter. The win over Cotto was dominant, but there are other competitive fights out there for him. Shane is one. Clottey is one. P-Dub is one. And now he's whiffed on all three.

Waiting on Cotto is cherry picking. Frankly I have less interest in that fight than the above three.

But in the end, I can't blame Tony. He paid his dues to get to the top, and now he's doing what Mayweather did to him for all those years. It's business, but it's not commendable, and it's not doing jack sh*t for the sport.

Just like Hopkins-Pavlik was a pointless fight because Pavlik beat JT twice who beat Hopkins twice, right?

Cant agree with you there mate.I dont agree with some of his recent career choices, but he's far from a joke.
The fight with Williams was very close, and Margo says when he wanted the rematch,Williams wouldnt play ball....now he's reciprocating after his stock went up after Cotto.
Im not saying i know if thats true or not,but there are different sides to these stories.

oh ... i thought you were giving margo props for saying no to shane because shane was kind of washed up... when the real reason is a financial one..

    i just misinterpreted you

Well after reading the replies,i realize i could have worded the thread a lot better to be fair to you.
I probably was giving Margo a bit too much nobility and respect,i wasnt fully aware that it was such a money driven bail-out.
Thats the good thing about ESB.You learn things.:good

Give you a break? The only reason AM didn't take the fight is because of the money. First Williams, then Clottey, and now Shane.

Yeah, but you guys kept saying AM was entitled to a money fight, and now he isn't fighting. We tried to tell you AM isn't a draw. Nobody wants to pay ppv money to see him fight unless it is with a top of the line fighter. He can't carry a ppv all by himself. It's not his fault, it is just reality.
