Anybody else think RJJ is a big waste of time for Calzaghe right now?

God are you really that delusional? Yes roy still has Speed, and little power, but you forgot the important part, his stamina and reflexes are shot. He's a shot fighter. He'll get embarased.

I would say 97 percent of people don't want to see this fight. 3 percent idolize Joe and secretly don't want him to not fight the best so that at the end of the day they can look back and use their own screwed up logic to justify him as the best because he beat the great RJJ and whooped a prime Hopkins. They are affraid of him losing to a real guy and being discredited for his years of dominance because nobody saw Joe back then. So nobody can actually atest to how good he was other then by looking at his record which is full of nobodies. Joe will never be able to make up for his years of fighting nobodies but to them he deserves to be mentioned amoung the greats and in order to do that he has to be recognized by the public in general as a champion; however, he's old now. His powers are waning. And for the hardcore Calzaghe fans its more about him playing out the rest of his career without suffering a loss that would endanger his legacy and their by leaving an arguement (all be it a debatable arguement) that Calzaghe was one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Fortunently I've seen more of those guys on the BBC'c forum then on this one where even the Calzaghe fans are for the most part boxing fans first and formost.

Personally, if he wants to be remembered as one of the best of all time, he's already screwed the pooche on that one. And he'll have to prove me wrong by fighting a prime champion.

I'm not his fan, I can't stand the guy. That said, he is one of the top dogs and I want to see him fight. I would reather see him taking on the young lions like Pavlik and Dawson. However a fight with a legend like RJJ is not bad. Meanwhile P4P#1 PBF is wrestling -- for shame.

I find it hilarious that people are saying there's a bias against Calzaghe on these boards. Everyone has been mysteriously silent on the fact that Calzaghe is calling out RJJ for one last fight so he can retire undefeated. Are you kidding me?

A couple of months ago RJJ was a joke and now he's magically a legit opponent again for one of the top 5 p4p champs in the world? He flat out shot and I would bet the house that Calzaghe would destroy him.

I can't believe I've seen one or two people who think that Pavlik would get blown out by Calzaghe but RJJ would give him problems. I hope you guys have the same bookies I do because I'm going to be laughing to the bank.

People scream their heads off all day long when Money May wants to choose easy cash over a hard day at the office for legacy pay off and now Joe wants to close out his career with a fight against RJJ and people are just jerking off the way? People should be going nuts on this board.

not a waste of time, especially since dawson arguably lost his last fight, and tarver has been inconsistent a bit, but in an ideal world roy should earn a shot by at least beating a legit top lhw first. i don't know if you can gage exactly how much roy has left based upon his recent outings.

That's like saying name a bigger money fight than Dela Hoya vs Mayweather 2.

    Doesn't make it right.

He's not just a waste of time for Calzaghe - he is a waste for the media, BBC, Setanta, HBO, ESPN and most other companies... The guy wants two fights with Joe, one in Wales and another in the States so that he can get his retirement fund... God, Jones won the SMW Championship in 1994! All he does now is potshot and lean back against the ropes, and can't take some shots well... Jones does not deserve it.

    Yes.

Even more so than the Hopkins fight was (which led to nearly disastrous consequences).

There is less risk in this fight but virtually no historical reward at all.

At this point RJJ doesn't have anything to trouble Calzaghe and his best quality, his top notch reflexes have faded tremendously to the point where he's a journeyman fighter with a big name.

It would be a sad night to see this completely cooked version of Roy Jones get outclassed by a guy he would've sparked 10 years ago.
