Anybody else think RJJ is a big waste of time for Calzaghe right now?

Both of these guys are equal ... don't believe for one minute that Calzaghe is having fought the same fighters that Roy fought wouldn't have a loss or two on his record by now.

Joe also backed out a fight w/ Glenn Johnson in favor of fighting Sakio Bika.

Jones is a stiff test for Jones ... who is well respect across the world ... he packed a small arena in mississippi w/ 7,000 plus fans against a fighter that still to this date no one ever heard of ... (prince badi ajamu)

I say that this is a very even fight and neither fighter can beat Chad Dawson.

the problem is this fight...RJJ is shot, its not a win win situation for calzaghe. If he wins and retires after this fight people would remember him as the guy who took on old legends before retiring

couldn't agree more, its a horrible fight for calzaghe, he can get no credit (and deserves none) for beating a roy so shot he's riddled with bullet holes.

it will hurt his legacy to have a fight against him because like you said, he'll be remember as that guy who beat an old jones and an old hopkins.

the only fight that will make a difference to his legacy is pavlik, and is probably worth as much money as a jones fight at this point, but obviously the risks are far far greater

If anyone oesn't want to see this fight they are crazy. Jones still has the handspeed and I don't think Calzaghe has the power to brutually ko him anyway. Pavlik needs to fight Abraham and Kessler before even wanting to fight Joe. So why not Jones and Calzaghe as a retirement fight. They deserve a huge payday anyway. For being huge star in their counties anyway. It not there fault that these youngster don't get PPV numbers

i don't know why there are people wanting this fight..

i'd prefer he takes on dawson, pavlik is also good as you've mentioned.

. . . there's a thread in here that says JC only wants money for his next fight . . . well if that's the case . . . NO.

Fighting RJJ may not give him a belt but definitely will give him more money than fighting Tarver, Dawson or Erdei. And also no belts . . . but more stature bercause RJJ is a Hall of Famer.

i dont think he should fight dawson because it'll be a tough fight and joe will get no credit if he wins because people will say dawson was exposed by johnson.

only the true true haters would criticise a pavlik win

Roy Jones is going to beat Joe Calzaghe. Wait and see.

calzaghe fans(the ridiculous ones) would want to hype jones so nobody would discredit his choice of RJJ, but lets face it jones is clearly shot, more shot and another old timer. People would like i said after calzaghe wins against jones would likely say that jones is shot. Not a win win situation for calzaghe, if he takes the likes of pavlik and dawson who are young prime or pre prime fighters he would get more credit and a higher spot at the ATG if he wins against them

Pavlik or Dawson are the fights JC should be after. If he fights Jones at this stage, he deserves all the disrespect and abuse he has ever got.

1st of all, I dont know if 175 offers any benifit to Joe, Hopkins lost but looked like he carried the weight better. Joe has fought all but 1 of his fights @ 168 SO HE MAY BE BETTER SUITED FIGHTING HIS LAST FIGHT THERE. If he beats Jones, no biggy and Jones could run, popshot and make the fight close and that would hurt Joe...Can he beat Roy at his own game because Joe's power did not look better @ 175 and it will be power that beats Roy and pressure. Joe is 36, let him sell out Wales vs someone @168 and retire

its about money and who wants the fight.

the fight should take place at the millenium stadium whoever it is because calzaghe is a great ticket seller and it adds to the money pot.

the casino behind the hopkins fight says it lost millions despite oscar giving them back 2 million.

it is clear calzaghe is not a draw in america in any shape or form and the fight with hopkins will not have helped that at all.

pavlik would be my choice, but i do not know if arum/warren could or would accomadate it.

    arum will want $8 to $10 million(hypothetical number ) for a pavlik fight .
whereas warren knows he can pay roy jones the same millions and he guarantees himself a full 75,000 house whereas pavlik has been seen 3 times on uk tv, all 3 times going out at 4 am uk time, which is hard to build a name on.

tarver is possible and easiest of the lot imo , got the name, face recognition ,would put bums on seats and warren would have to pay him way less than all the other possible opponents with the exception of dawson, who will clearly be squeezed out .

on past form if you were to look it from a warren perspective, tarver it is then:D
