Anybody get Emotional last night.......

Well around round 5 i knew Miguel wasn't going to win but when i saw him firing back i felt proud and i felt like i had tears coming.When he was stopped i just sat back and took a breath and acknowledged Manny's greatness but i was just so proud of Miguel's effort. Today i've been quite quiet and sad...it is to me what it's like when my team loses...

 

:good Totally agree mate. Miguel will always be one of the great fighters i seen and his humidity in defeat is something i wish all fighters showed. A true role model and a man of class. Fighters like Arguello will look down from above and smile seeing fighters embrace like that and show the class them two guys showed last night...it's a special sport for special kind of people.

 

Im sure the $2.5m dollars from purse and expected $8m from PPV share will heal his wounds.

 

Yep he's well and truly earned it and hope he uses it wisely and can't wait to see how Cotto Promotions goes.

 

He had good patches last night Miguel but it was hard to watch him back pedalling and looking desperate when they exchanged. Really do think Mayweather will beat Pacquaio but take nothing away from pac he fought a great fight and i said on the general forum many times i fought he was gonna get flattened, made me look a dick once again cos i backed hatton like a knob aswell!

 

Boxing evokes all kinds of emotions from me, it's why I love it. I totally hear what you're saying about Cotto, it was sad to see him take such a beating but I always knew it was a possibility.

 

Perhaps they were booing Cotto's corner or the ref for not stopping the fight. I had the impression that Miguel would have been grateful of an earlier stoppage if his corner had shown a bit of compassion.

I think it was in the 9th round when I thought I had seen enough. It was if he felt duty bound to persevere, even though he knew what was going to happen.

Perhaps Cotto felt he had something to prove after retiring himself against Margarito, but I must admit his bravery was a bit uncomfortable to watch at times.

 

I hated watching it and was hoping it would be stopped sooner, thats why the stoppage was irritating, he went through that extra few rds surviving to be stopped with a couple mins left.

Cotto showed his class early on but seemed to lose the head and with it any chance he had.

 

what, you wish all fighters went somewhere hot after a bad loss??

 

I felt a little sorry for Cotto, but Pac is a Legend in the making and it was a great performance from the little man. If he beats Mayweather his journey towards greatness will be complete.

I think last night cements a global acceptance that Pacquiao has been a true genius of the sport, Mayweather or no Mayweather.

in thirty years time, we will be asking 'but could they have handled Pac in his prime', when sussing out how great the latest prospect will go down in history.

Last night's performance was a true virtuoso in the prime of his career unleashing hell. If he died in a plane crash tomorrow he will go down as one of the greatest of all time in my eyes. Mayweather and Mosley would make the icing on a truly astounding career though.

 

My own comment came back to haunt me. Miguel's extreme idiocy in the fourth allowed Manny to do just what I was worried about. That uppercut effectively ended the fight - it took everything Cotto had out of him.

I wouldn't blame Santiago entirely, but he didn't know how to solve the problem after. I think that Miguel had looked so sharp in the early going and was generally doing a good job of out-boxing Manny - unfortunately he decided to open up on a fast sharpshooter. When he kept it to three shots and stepped around, he looked incredible - that was the tactic, cause Manny seemed confused by it. Standing, throwing four and five punch combinations was just silly. It gave Manny the space to get something really devastating through. To Cotto's credit, he managed to avoid the uppercut after that.

Pacquiao is some fighter.

 

I was caught between two contrasting emotions throughout the night.

The ultimate respect for what Manny Pacquaio and sadness for Miguel Cotto, a fighter who I have been a fan of for many years and showed his warrior pride despite it being obvious after the 5th round that he probably wouldn't win.

As others have said, and more will say, the fight epitomised every thing I love about our sport. You can stick your Premier League football right up your arse because they are over-paid, over-hyped and pampered prats who are subjected to undeserved acclaim and media attention. I will never fall out of love with boxing.

 

Miguel Cotto is a brilliant fighter, weather he achieves all time great status depends on what he does from this point untill the end.

Manny pacquio is the outstanding fighter of this era bar none.......it does not matter if he loses his next 20 fights, what he has achieved is what you call greatness.

My saddest moment was watching Mike Tyson get a beat down from Lennox Lewis, and then hearing people actually start to go on about how Tyson wasnt all that, etc
