That would have been some nice exposure. They already have the other date filled?

I don't know? This was brought to us by Mike Acri. I think they're pretty firm on the July 30th date.

I guess every fighter who isn't the very best of it's division should just retire then. Wouldn't be fun if there was only 3-4 fighters per division...

If Kelly was having problems once he hit 167 then that tells me even if he moves to 168 after 2 fights he will struggle again to make 168. Let him move up to 175 and fight Chad Dawson, after two tune ups.

Mackie Shilstone is a great addition for any fighter who is moving up in weight.

Andrade turns his head as the punch makes contact. Pavlik does that too, and so do a lot of other fighters.

Cloud is way overrated in my book. I think Pavlik has a chance versus him.

Shilstone is world class, and I'd love to see KP spend a little time with him. However, sometimes adding weight is just a matter of letting your body do what it wants to, and develop naturally. Just like a lot of guys who started in the AMs very young, KP has been cutting weight since he was a little kid. I think his body finally said, "screw you, we're not doing this anymore."

I'll challenge you to look at 3 videos when you get time. They're all on You Tube. 1: The Robert Dayosan fight in February 2002. 2: The Zuniga fight in October 2005. 3: The HBO interview that shows KP at 180 two weeks before the Martinez fight.

Pavlik showed signs of weight drain and dehydration as far back as the Zuniga fight. This kid is a LHW, and if he tries to fight at 168, in a short time he'll be right back to struggling to make weight.

apologies for just jumping in on the last page and not reading the whole thread but this is a great post boo. i think you're right: pavlik's frame is that of a much larger man. though his power was always good, physically he was almost too lean. he needs to bulk up naturally and adding shilstone can help him tone it and make the most out of the extra 15 pounds

Boo, would you agree that at 160lbs, Pavlik's best assets were his strength, power & size?

If so, how do you think that will translate to 175lbs? Where presumably his strength, power & size won't be anything special at that division.

If he's at 180lbs after a training camp then isn't he more a super middleweight then a light heavyweight? Guys like Bute and Andrade step in the ring between 182-185lbs.

The 180 was two weeks before the Martinez fight, and physically it's the best I've ever seen him look. Losing 20 pounds to make 160 was ridiculous, and it really looked like losing 12 pounds to make 168 would have required burning muscle. Once a fighter starts burning muscle, he's hurting himself.

Why can Bute do it and Pavlik can't?

They're pretty much the same height & size. :blood

Perhaps Pavlik needs to have a better team of trainers and nutritionists around him. Bute leaves nothing up to luck when he's in training camp. He has his boxing trainer, his conditioning coach, his nutritionist, sport psychologist, masseuse, world class sparring partners, etc...

I remember seeing a documentary leading to the Hopkins fight and Pavlik's training camp looked very amateurish. He was sparring with local amateur kids for crying out loud. While on the other hand for his last couple of fights Bute has been sparring with Glenn Johnson, Alejandro Berrio, Randy Griffin, etc...

    You get what I'm saying?
