I've been regularly watching that show for some time now, and it's very interesting, how the fighting philosophies differ from each other and how they can be similar.

Everytime I watch it, I imaagine how well incorporating that particular style to an MMA fighter's skill set would work in actual competition situations?

Obviously, Muay Thai, western boxing the BJJ are 3 of the most popular ones fighters train in, but how about the other fighting systems? Which ones do you think would help an MMA fighter the most?

I've recently seen the Krav Maga and the Wing Chun episodes, btw (talk about aggressive, inside fighting. :yep) and the self defense aspect of it impressed me.

Sambo's more like dirty, street boxing, right? (hand strikes wise) I dont think they consistently throw straight punches, though.

Yeah, nice job that they have. I got hooked ever since I saw their Philippine Kali stick fighting episode, and I've seen most if not all of their episodes now.

I think Jimmy, the bald guy, he's a TV commentator for MMA now for Affliction.

By eastern boxing you mean European style of boxing?
BTW although I loved how well the inside fighting was for wing chun I feel it's flawed because of it's short distance.

Yeah, I was thinking that maybe some of the aggressive in-fighting stuff might come in handy once in a while, instead of just clinching defensively and hitting a few clubbing punches in close quarters.

    No. Soviet.
Where they had to turn their fists over when they did hooks so that gloves would register hits(I think thats why they did it). The hooks are usually have either knuckles pointing out towards the opponent or up. With the shitty equipment they had to turn their knuckled over to almost face yourself (about 45 degrees). This has several advantages in mma: distance is greatly increased, insures that you always land big knuckles first, the blocking against it doesn't work against it as well, exaggerates the shoulder rotation to protect your chin. Big disadvantage is that its REALLY bad for your shoulders and elbows unless you've been trained like that for long time. Basically the arms get trained to take that punishment.

    In a word, Fedor.
