Strange dude. Seemed he could give it and take it. He firmly out-boxed Jake LaMotta, what twice?, he beat Solly Krieger, he beat Bolden, but he lost much more often than he won at this sort of level, plus he's got some flat our weird losses against journeymen types, some by knockouts... Anyone know anything about him? Was he ranked?
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=11773&cat=boxer His series with Jake LaMotta sounds absolutley epic.
Just looking over his record seemed to be a gatekeeper kinda guy who fell short against the top guys, Anton Christoforidis, Yarosz and Fitzpatrick. His wins with lamotta are slightly controversial arnt they? and he is crushed in a third meeting.
I can't find fight reports for any of their fights. Boxrec has this for the first fight: "For seven rounds Reeves knocked Lamotta from pillar to post. Things changed dramatically in the last three rounds." The snippet goes on to describe Reeves being soundly thrashed in the last three rounds and dropped five times. It seems to have been controversial because it arguably should have been stopped and because Reeves was actually down when the final bell sounded. The referee: "Reeves had piled up such a big margin he seemed entitled to finish if he could. He was more hurt than tired." For the second fight, another decision win for Reeves: "Reeves piled up an insurmountable lead on points...the last two rounds were a slugfest but Reeves paced himself better than in the previous fight." So I would suggest there is nothing that strange about these decisions. LaMotta was green of course, and he crushed Reeves when he met him as the near-finished article. Beating a past-prime Krieger and flooring Teddy Yarosz aren't bad either.
Didnt fighting break out after the first Lamotta fight and fans booed the decision, although that could be due to jakes popularity. Sounds a good fight thought.
Yeah, all of that happened, but like I say, it was likely because Reeves finished the fight on the deck, saved by the bell. Reeves dominated the first seven rounds according boxrec in detail that seems to come from the AP. But maybe it's bull****, i don't know.
