Yeah, but it was like he was doomed to get silver when Sasha was around.

Russo is more exciting and has more suitable style for pro ranks IMO.

Pro boxing is not for the feint hearted, you could be seriously injured or die and risks are greater in heaveyweights i would imagine, would of made a good pro no doubt, serious power he had.

Well, Damiani is sort of a measuring stick and had more glory as an am than pro. Pianeta just gets smacked around as a pro. No need to fight out of near poverty. It's not the craziest decision ever.

You have also to understand that Italian boxers generally do not speak English.
The Italian pro-scene cannot guarantee anything more than a few thousands euros per bout, so the big offer must come from foreigner managers or promoters.

Although fully integrated in Europe, Italy as a country has a more insular culture than the rest of the western world. For an Italian not speaking any other language, and in possess of a very basic education, living abroad would be akin to captivity.

Accepting an offer from some greedy foreigner to Germany or an Anglophone country would be perceived as taking a leap into the unknown, against a safe job at home (although not well-paying by any means).

IB is spot on... For some there just isn't enough insensitive to go pro. He's cozy as is, and going pro would jeopardize all of that.
