Kessler's position is not as good as it looks like. He's not at all marketable at this moment in the USA (10.000 Russian fan would join Wladimir, 20.000 Puerto Rican for Cotto, 50.000 British/Welsh for Hatton, Calzaghe, but how many Dane are there?) he is not a big draw in Europe (different countries, languages), and the only place where he is a big hero is his home country Denmark where he has MAJOR problems as no TV is behind him anymore. The TV is the key thing and no TV would pay millions per fights and on Kessler's level millions are needed for those big opponents, big events, big promotion, paying Kessler himself etc. In his last fight in Denmark only the half of the expected bought a ticket to the arena and that event ended up with a loss of money. What I've said before a risky fight or an eliminator would be good and Kessler could fight in Germany as his fans could drive to a German arena by car, so it would be a solution. But I don't think that Kessler is in a position to fight for an immediate eliminator so he badly needs a top15 fighter shortly. The SMW division is divided by countries and oceans today and Calzaghe’s the only one who can pick his opponent as he likes. Bute's team doesn't seem to take a risk (Joppy, Andrade etc). In the UK Froch is on a different path, they don’t need a risky fight. In Germany Inkin, Brahmer, Balzsay would be happy to avoid Mikkel. In the USA he would have to take a risk against a good fighter and no one seems to take a risk against Kessler as he is out of position right now. Mundine in Australia said he wants a rematch but he seems to prefer Green at the moment. Team Palle's position is not too good, Mr. Palle's health is unfortunately not too good and Kessler badly needs a fight as soon as possible. Maybe if Mikkel could sign a co-promotional deal with a German or American team... maybe if GBP would step up and sign him... but that looks unlikely... So Kessler either needs a tune-up in Denmark, an eliminator in Germany, or wait and take a risky fight in the US, Canada or Australia when the time comes - at it could be forever.
It was forced to Warren, otherwise Joe would have to go to Copenhagen.:scaredas: It's normal that we don't hear anything about Kesslers next fight. When it come to $ I think Palle is one of the best promotors out there. What Kessler needs is new inspiration/ trainer, he said himself that he might go to USA for training and inspiration, but he'll keep Olsen as a trainer. I hope his next fight will be in USA, I'm sure people in USA will like his style, he's a true Warrier.:bbb
Unfortunelaty a very good analysis of his options. I really don't think they had planned for if he lost to JC, otherwise they would have accepted the HBO offer prior to the JC fight. I think HBO offered 4 fights in the us after calzaghe. I am getting worried by the lack of rumours, i think he might end up fighting Larsen in copenhagen. A fight that will gain him little in terms of qualifying for a new superfight. I don't know if he has the patience to fight bums untill he get the rankings he deserve.
It takes two to tango - without Palle's 5mill offer, we would still be asking for that fight to be made...
I think Mikkel Kessler is the best at Super Middle, Calzaghe excepted of course. He would make short work of most of the others at super middle, perhaps a match up with the winner of Pavlik/Taylor would be good, I certainly think that has more chance of happening than the winner vs Carl Froch - Hennessy at it again, no doubt the reason why the fight doesn't happen will be ducking, as always! If Kessler's power could remain with a move to light heavy then he should move up - face it, his nemesis Calzaghe ain't going to be around much longer, so the cloud over him will disappear.
He should take whoever he can get that will get him decent exposure. He's good enough to beat anyone -- remember, if all else fails, beat up Judah. Yes, I'm aware they're in different weight-classes. Doesn't matter. It's the antidote to everything.
I think he may be too good for his own good. Him against Bute would make a hell of a fight but I don't think Interbox would want this fight because Bute would lose badly. I don't think they have the money to sign him but he has a pretty good name here ever since he defeated Éric Lucas
Dude needs to get into the ring soon with somone decent. If his promoter is in such poor health and it sounds like they are tight, his promoter will hopefully get another trusted promoter to help further Kessler's career. He's in the prime of his career and he has to move forward.
If the money is right, I know Miranda would be willing to travel to Demark to fight. But he is already being offered a very nice payday to go beat up Pascal in Montreal. So the purse would have to well out do what the Canadian are willing to pay... I personally would much rather Miranda take the harder fight in Kessler. It would stick him right on top of SMW with a win. A win against Pascal will not do nearly as much. I think the risk is worth the reward.
Mogens Palle trust anyone - not likely - not likely at all :smoke Winky might actually be a good bid - he doesn't have a fight lined up and he has got little to loose in a fight against Kessler - even with a Kessler defeat he'll still be able to get fights. And Winky is near perfect for Kessler - well known in the US and a good style match.
Bute may lose, but badly? Anyway, it won't happen this year, Interbox wants that fight for next year, not before.
Kessler would beat Miranda blindfolded. anyways Miranda's handlers wouldn't take this fight. Its gonna be hard for Kessler to find an opponent iom
