Anybody still feel Golovkin vs. Pirog in 2012 would have been 50-50?

He rolled with entire combos from Jacobs, using stutter-steps and minimal head movement and barely getting touched. Dude had quick feet, hands, neck twitch muscles, overall reflexes...

    Hard to say
    Pirog destroyed Jacobs
    GGG struggled with Jacobs
    Pirog struggled with Ishida
    GGG destroyed Ishida
    Fascinating match up

@IntentionalButt Have you scored GGG/Jacobs yet? If so curious what your card looked like.

Vice versa with Jacobs. Are we on the Twilight Zone? No, this happens in boxing. Styles make fights.

The fact they were going to fight is proof GGG is not a ducker. Pirog would have been one of his sterner tests. However, that being said, I don't know how Pirog takes GGG's pressure and power. Although not entirely tested GGG's chin appears very solid.

For me, GGG is more proven, which is unfortunately due to Pirog's injury; poor bloke. I'd lean towards GGG but wouldn't be surprised if Pirog won.

Healthy Pirog is the only guy at 160 who had a chance

They were 2 rounds a piece IMO when Jacobs was stopped. Destroyed is a bit much.

    Ultimately that's what happened though.

...or did Márquez not destroy Pacquiao in their fourth encounter?

I guess so. I personally see destroyed as a one sided domination myself.

    Ummmmm.....

Ward may well be as big as Jacobs, but he's not even close in terms of speed or power, and Jacobs didnt need to hold and hit very much to hold his own with GGG.

Ward would need lessons from John Ruiz just to keep up with GGG.

Hell, I'd favor Jacobs to KTFO Ward at 168.

    GGG would probably steamroll Ward.

Jacobs is faster and probably the better pure boxer than Ward, but Ward has the much better chin and deeper bag of tricks (like Hopkins, taking a platter of above-average qualities across the board and enhancing them with sheer craftiness - including some borderline or illegal tactics - giving him an effectiveness rating well beyond the sum of his individual qualities).

Jacobs running GGG close doesn't automatically translate into a sure win for a bigger sturdier and trickier, higher-ring-IQ possessing Ward, and I personally don't think he's a 90-10 favorite over Golovkin, but he also probably doesn't get steamrolled by GGG (who failed to keep smaller more fragile Jacobs down) and it would be Ward knocking Jacobs out, not vice-versa.
