Not true - to beat Floyd you need to be able to pose him lots of different problems, beginning until end. You made another post about Judah causing him trouble for four rounds... let me explain why. It was nothing to do with Judah's speed, it was the southpaw angles and Judah's unconventional assault. The fact he didn't use a jab, would attack from weird angles and with little strategy meant Floyd wasn't able to use his real talent - his timing. Until Floyd spots a pattern, he can look cagey. By the end of the fourth round, Floyd was timing Judah. I remember he landed a short left hook as Judah threw a straight left. It wasn't a big shot, there wasn't a big reaction, but it froze Judah's aggression for the rest of the round. And from that point in, he couldn't touch Floyd, despite being faster than his reaction times. Floyd just shut him down. To beat Floyd you need decent handspeed, mastery of feints, good footwork, a solid jab, a variety of shots that you're capable of leading off with, decent defence, and the mentality to mix it up even in the same round. So basically, a Ray Leonard, a Duran or a Hearns. Judah, for all his flash, is one-dimensional. That's why he couldn't beat Floyd, fast or whatever.
As Flea says, you missed the point. Comparing a genuine elite fighter like Cotto to a club fighter like Gatti or a slugger like Corrales is just dumb. For Floyd to manage that would require him to fight in a completely different style to what he's done against lesser fighters.
You havnt made any points *******. I'm saying mayweather rises to the challenge and wipes the floor with cotto. And if cotto fights well then mayweather ups his own game and handles him. Why don't you understand that? Asswipe
Let's ask another question, which of the current fighters around Floyd's weight comes close to the list of attributes you listed. Question I ask people is why does Floyd most of the time get off first, Why does he set the pace, why does his feints off set opponents in not getting off and left in two minds? Because Floyd has always(expect maybe Zab) held a speed advantage and has great timing and footwork to go with it. There are time windows in which Floyd can be get at, fighter's show show too much respect and give him time to set his traps get sucked in to his fight, why was ODH successful vs Floyd? He did not give Floyd too much time to set, lead in with punches in bunches and most times lead off the jab in the first half of the fight. A combination of handspeed faster than his own, a decent jab, and a high workrate, which would all back Floyd onto ropes and go into his shell is what will take him out his zone, take Floyd out of his zone and you might have a chance of beating him if maintained over 12rds.
Cotto will win via TKO. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blYlVc98sDs&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
I think Mayweather will win a closer than expected decision. but..... I expect a much better Cotto than we have seen for a long time, the win over Margarito will have no doubt lifted him mentally. Cotto is a big underdog and with so many people are writing him off that he is a man with nothing much to lose and very little pressure on him and that in my opinion makes him very dangerous. And we will see if the legal issues and the prospect of up and coming jail time have any effect on Mayweather.
**** it... I think Mayweather will win. I honestly think he needs to win more, a loss will destory his life. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBaKrk9ZQ7w&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
Again, you've missed the point (not surprising, you're thick as pig****) Again, not a case of Floyd 'upping his game'. It's a case of him only appearing that good because he was fighting someone on the level of Gatti.
Darni, re-read my post. The relative troubles Oscar gave Floyd are because he was a complete sort of fighter. He could box, slug, mix it up within the round... but as soon as he got tired, he came to pieces. Once Floyd worked out his rhythm, Oscar couldn't do much. A jab and work-rate does ****. Hatton had a jab, workrate and good handspeed and Mayweather mugged him on the inside and the outside. You need to have all-round skills, the confidence to use them, and a multi-dimensional approach to your game. There aren't any fighters at 147 or around that with those dimensions to their game. And let's not even pretend Khan could survive Mayweather. Consider that Floyd can do what Khan can do, but better, and he can fight like Peterson when needed, but better, and your boy would be shown up.
Good post DFT. In another era, there would be MANY fighters who could deal with Floyd, and he'd be just another contender.
I like Cotto a lot, one of my favourite fighters of recent years but there's no way he wins. It's as plain as day that Floyd's lead right alone will win him the fight, Cotto is too open for it. If Floyd wants to he'll stop Miguel. Cotto will be competitive for a bit though, maybe 5 rounds even.
Speaking of all-round skills, just on this very thread you have shown an admirable ability to switch it up between longer, reasoned think pieces and a quick one-two of dismissal. Like your work!
