In his last two fights? I mean he did pretty much dominate Chilemba and in most peoples minds out pointed Ward too but he looked a little flat for me, like a bit of sparkle and zip has gone out of his game. The animal instinct wasn't quite there in comparison to other fights.. The power was there sure and don't get me wrong he is still at the top of the pile but I just got the feeling that something was missing? Am I wrong and over reacting? Maybe the Loma performance will inspire him and light a fire up under his arse again! But come on... 24 rounds with Chilemba and Ward.. I mean if you can't take anything away from that or learn from it when can you? Hopefully Kovalev will be firing on all cylinders next time out again. Peace
The way Ward fought made it hard to knock him out. Kovalev did very well against Chilemba who is arguably a top 5 LHW and I wouldn't be surprised if Kov wanted to get rounds in when he fought him. Sometimes Kovalev fights like he isn't exactly trying to knock you out as much as he is trying to outbox you. He's just so strong that it happens anyway. Also, some people think Kov injured his right hand vs Ward which would kind of make sense.
He did look a little flat to me, but honestly ... I really don't know whether it was two subpar performances or just that his opponents were really elusive.
Nothing wrong with Kovalev, same old Kovalev. The only thing that went flat in the Ward fight was his ego.
He had another poor training camp. It was supposidly personal problems this time. He still kicked Wards ass.
I wouldn't say flat. I would say gassed. Ward's body shots had an impact. It took Kovalev's legs out a bit.
