If a boxer gets caught with the perfect shot from a top banger (Foreman, Tyson, Sanders etc) and it's perfectly timed and lands on the sweet spot, is he going down for the count ? IMO, yes. Please vote
I actually just made the point on the GF that this in fact is the case. :yep Was that your muse for this thread or did you conceive it independently?
I think that any fully developed, healthy man is physically capable of KOing any other man in a single punch
No. I think there's a grade of chin that can absorb such a shot. If you consider Hearns a MW puncher we've actually seen it versus Hagler. If you consider Lewis a HW puncher we've actually seen it versus Tyson. If you consider Shavers a HW puncher, we've actually seen it versus Ali. A properly balanced granite chin can absorb these type of shots IMO. Assuming there's parity in weight.
Anybody can be knocked out, but when you get into the best chins of all time, the chances of a one shot KO are verry slim. I think that there is perhaps an outside chance if the iron chinned fighter is caught completely off guard. Bottom line? Yes but I would never count on it.
The "iron chin will save you" is poppycock and balderdash...ANY man can be knocked out when a fist hits a chin just right...especially when it's an unseen fist, and the neck muscles aren't quick enough to act as a shock absorber.
No, I didn't see your post, IB, but I was tired of the self-appointed chin-checkers proclaiming this one and that one to be chin-challenged when they in fact got KO'd by a perfect shot, which IMO, would take anybody down.
The 'unseen' part makes it even more convincing. I am pretty certain that No chin can withstand Mike Tyson's best Sunday punch, perfectly timed and perfectly placed. If you add in the fact that our victim doesn't see it coming, then I would change 'pretty certain' to 'absolutely certain.'
