I actually enjoyed the fight, OK it was messy but both guys were giving everything, I have certainly seen a lot worse!
I couldnt understand where Darke & Watt were coming from slagging off the fight as it was happening...

The decision left a sour taste in my mouth though. Quiggers did enough to win, he was in control until he got that haymaker in the bollocks, after that he faded but held on & should have won by close but unanimous decision.

& I was angry with the "winner by majority decision" announcement, when it was in fact a split decision. As if the Warren fighter was ever going to be denied...

As for Darke & Watt, what a pair of paid off twats they are nowadays, Darke scoring THREE even rounds??? An even round is only scored in extreme circumstances, not three times in the one fight.
& Watt was his usual Watt, moaning & groaning & cutting the favourite too much slack.

No wonder carl Froch mutes the commentary nowadays, cos big fight commentators are more of a hindrance than a help nowadays.

In this digital age, we really should have an option to mute commentary & make up our own minds how we see a fight going... I hate being forced to hear a paid off talking head trying to convince me to see what they see. & that goes for all of 'em. None can be trusted nowadays.

    Serious question Dunk:

Was that a worse a decision than Froch-Dirrell?

it just depends on what your expectations were really, there was never gonna be much quality on display and in fact it was damn right garbage at times from a skillful point of view, but certainly watchable.

No way. Quigley was the better man IMO, but Smith had his moments in the last 2 rounds.

Froch had no moments against Dirrell IMO, & if Dirrell had just opened up a little, Carl wouldnt have went the distance.

The Froch-Dirrell fight reminded me of Mayweather-Hatton, you always thought the american was coasting but if he opened up he could close the show quicker. As we all know Mayweather opened up eventually & that was that.
Dirrell was in the same position but didnt gamble. & he paid with an undeserved L.

Its the story of american black fighters though, they have all the natural talent but its in their psyche to always try to box their way to victory.

I mean think about it. Imagine if a prime Ali or a prime Leonard decided to stand & trade with their natural attributes? They would have been amazing knockout merchants if you ask me.

However, most of them stick to pure boxing, & it pays off most of the time. However, there are times when they need to just let go, but they dont, for reasons of their own. Its just in their boxing upbringing.

Even larry Holmes when faced with an old Ali just kept boxing instead of showing a bit of devil & finishing the old man off... Sorry, you asked a question & it triggered a conversation me & my boxing buddies were having earlier tonight about this & that.

    Well you did ask Gaz:D

quigley was definately the one comin forward for most of the fight, and he did land slightly more shots than paul, but it was a hard fight to call so u either go for more determined fighter or the one with the better boxing skills...

paul landed the better shots and looked the better boxer

quigley was coming forward more and making the fight very awkward

...to be honest, im a smigger fan but i really did expect TQ to get the decision, i suppose money talks... and frank warrens got a ton of it!!!!

but just because i think TQ should have got the decision doesnt mean he was better than paul. paul is much better than quigley, everyone knows that, he just needs to work his way in more and throw more jabs.

neither fighter was worthy of the British SM title in this fight, lets see what happens in the rematch!!!

my friend is a close friend of paul and he was talking tactics for this fight with the vaughan's. the plan was to catch quigley in the head and body as he comes in. quigleys jab made that very tough though, and paul couldnt make it work.

Thats the thing, I thought it was quiggers who was doing most of the boxing!
Smith was just a frustrated man putting all his power behind every shot, no way was Smith the boxer in this fight IMO.

& let it be said I watched this fight as a tue neutral. So its just honest opinions abounding from my big scottish heart.

Smith won although I think Quigley deserved the nod, but Im not going to lose any sleep over it.

I'm going to give the racial angle the swerve if you don't mind mate....:admin;)

BUT!! I thought that tonights fight was a lot easier to score than Froch-Dirrell.

You could easily make a case for Dirrell winning off the back foot but I can't see how you could make the same case for Smith.

BTW I'm pissed but comparing Froch-Direll to Hatton-Mayweather is waaaay off the mark mate !!! One was a close fight and the other was a bit of a schooling.:bbb

I don't think Smith did land the better shots TBH.

Smith's best moments were the last few rounds which was just him gritting it out and letting his punches go for once. It was hardly stuff of quality.

Theres nothing racial about anything I said.

Its just a straight boxing observation. Most black americans use the sweet science to their advantage rather than slug it out, like Ali, Robinson, leonard, Mayweather etc.

**** sake, just call me Nick Griffin & get it over with;)

The fight was alright, nothing special but both gave a lot. It didn't live up to the hype but I never thought it would. Smith is overrated in my opinion.

Poor fight between two poor fighters.
